Richard, the HIVAC is all up in the ceiling. No floor vents.

I just spent an hour at my partners house um office, yea the office.

Anyway his passport expired so he needs a renewal and that means a new photo. So with a $7,000 computer and a $5,000 Canon camera and a legal copy of Photoshop we shot him a new passport photo and saved him $15 at Walgreens. I have not shot a passport photo in many years. Back when I was still in high school I got my first job and part of that was shooting passport photos. We used 4x5 film and had to process film. It was all B&W and done old school low tech. The guy I worked for back then was a master at portraits. We had a fantastic studio.

Afternoon.

Yesterday had to have some support because one of our apps would not reset the password. The guy needed remote access to the server and as I watched I realized English was not one of his top 12 languages. I had everything setup for him and at the command line he decided to look for the correct directory (he was already there) and then got everything so messed up he asked me to get him back to where he was supposed to be. Every time he asked for help he would continue moving the mouse and changing the focus from where I was typing like we could both do different things on the screen at the same time. I think a cat playing with the mouse would have been lees spastastic moving around. After two ours of bouncing around he gave up. Most of what he did I had already done and they knew that when I submitted the ticket. This is after two days of emailing tickets back and forth mostly consisting of:

Me: I did this and this and this as it said in the KB.
Them: Did you do what it said in the KB?
Me: Yes. Exactly what is in the KB.
Them. You have to do what is in the KB.
Me: I did and even though it appears to be successful it did not reset anything and it does not prompt you to reset anything so you don't know what it is reset to and I need to know what it is reset to.
Them: You have to do what is in the KB and it will not prompt you to reset anything.
Me: I know, but I need to know what the script resets it to.
Them: You have to do what is in the KB to reset it.
Me: Nevermind, I will just reinstall the software and start over.
Them: I will have someone reach out to you to fix it.

I was ready to beat someones head against the wall. It is still unresolved by the way. The remote tech didn't know the answer either. I should just dump the table and run the wizard again actually.

Anyway, happy freezy Friday.

Remote use of my computers mouse should come with a electrical shock feature when you do something stupid with my computer.

I would have had to hold that button down the whole time.

When I have had the Office365 help, they did a support thing where I did a screen share of my computer and was logged into the stuff from there so I didn't actually give them access to anything but screen sharing on my computer. The only thing they could do was move a dot around on the screen to tell me what to do. Still had to go through doing the same thing several times and it still not work before they disappeared to find out what they were doing from someone else that knew. Pretty much assumed they were working from home and were using another computer to access the next level up.

Same with other vendors tech support I've used with the remote sharing of my screen but not control. All they could do was watch and request. Instead of disappearing and returning with something else to try, they usually brought the next level tech in on the call sharing their screen sharing my screen.

I happen to personally know one of the top tier tech support guys for the iPhone. We were friends before he went to work for Apple.

AT&T is installing my 50/10. Haven't seen him for 2-1/2 hours so guess he is having to bring whatever the connection is in from a long ways off.

He likely had to run to the Best Buy Geek Squad on the southside of the city to get the right gizmo.

They are basically running the equivalent of cat 5 from their junction box 1/2 miles away. Actually think it is already run to the poles, they just have to add my IP block then the do a drop from the pole to my house. AT&T must be running something to get more distance out of a cable run. Said they were laying temp and would be back to burry it in a week.

Also said this neighborhood is scheduled for gigbyte fibre within the next 2 years.
This is the first time they have offered the 50/10 business connection in this area.

Told them I run servers so what is important to me is the upload speed.

Back in the olden days 20 years ago when we moved into this house I was still on dial up. I had AT&T for our home phone line, and I used AT&T for the internet. The fastest I could get connected with 38.8K and my modem got the full 56K at my other house. It was simple to crappy of a signal. I switched to Cox digital phone and instantly got the blazing 56K.

We were just too far from the switch office to get a good connection. I hear they have brought in faster connections to the area. If my partner continues to get good service and your service works properly for a while I might call Cox and see what they can do to keep my internet business. The only thing that may make me hesitate is my email addresses I have with Cox. I don't need them, but I like having some of them. It is real easy to set up a trash email address and use that for special officers then just delete it.

Welp. att is supposedly up. Still not impressed. Did not get static IPs, get to call customer service already. I ain't changin over any of my devices till I get static IPs. It somehow was not on the work order. The modem does have 2.4 and 5 ghz wifi though.

They said the down time window is 4 hours. It is supposed to not ever be down for more than 4 hours from when I call.

Cox business got me static IPs when they installed it, even set reverse lookup on installation, and guarantee only 1 hour of down time from when I call. Maybe Cox charges more because they don't have their head up.

The 2 installers received 3 calls from customers wanting their service turned off while they were here.

Stijn!!

We had a little 3.2 earthquake tonight. It is a kind bang like someone throwing a boulder into a dumpster then the house has a quick very minor shake. No damage, just noise and a wiggle.

The epicenter was just a few miles away.

I think it's the mole people setting us up for some kind of invasion. That or they are playing some kind of weird oversized subterranean game of Jenga. Either way it's the mole people.

They are also responsible for all the socks that disappear, and the storage containers that you end up with lids an no containers. They gotta have someplace to put those socks.

See what happens when I wake up way to early!

Morning all.

It looks like Mrs. Carrera will have me building a birdhouse mounting pole. It is for a bluebird bird house. The thing wants a pole just 5 feet tall but smooth pole to prevent mice or critters from climbing the pole.

3/4 inch conduit is good for the smooth pole. Could probably use a couple of them in my yard with all the grubs I gots.

Had a grub worm problem, ie short tail crickets that make them little dirt piles, until my brother started letting his cat out. It was only a few weeks until we noticed that cat had gotten really fat and there were no more of them little piles in the yard.

Now that I gots no cat no more, them little dirt piles are back. Will see if the bugs-be-gone service gets rid of em.

Oh boy. AT&T network don't work. The DNS numbers they gave me over the phone are not what are entered in their router. If I try to put anything else for DNS, The addresses on the phone or google DNS, it says invalid.

I presume you still have Cox internet.

We went with 3/4 iron pipe. It is threaded on the ends. I have a 2 foot piece, a connector and a 5 foot piece. I will hammer the two foot piece into the ground with the connector on top. Then screw in the 5 foot piece. Then slide a piece of one inch PCV that we will paint to look better over the iron galvanized pipe. A simple flange fitting will provide a flat surface to mount the birdhouse onto. It is supposed to be 5 feet above the ground.
