Is the garage door itself insulated? I don’t heat my garage unless I am working out there. It never gets below 40. It is amazing how warm a hot car engine can warm up a garage.

Yep, insulated to.
I set the thermostat on the electic heater to keep the garage around 50°F so the liquids and waxes and stuff like that don't get too cold. Use one little electric heater, took 2 before I added the insulated door. 2 walls are outside brick walls and uninsulated, one is an interior house wall. Above the ceiling is not insulated as well. My heater closet that has the HVAC and Watertank is in the garage with 2 inches under the door and is open to the attic. My attic vents pull enough air that it pulls the garage door away from the seals on the sides and top. May be I need to close up that gap under the HVAC doors some so it draws more air through the soffit vents and not the overhead door. Even with the insulated door in the summer it gets to within 5 degrees of whatever it is outside.

Been thinking about he garage...
Probably need to seal the HVAC closet better. Both the doors that open to my garage and the open ceiling over the closet. The house was evidently build so the closet would provide air thru the doors in the garage and attic for the heaters. HVAC guy put the vent tubes in because it is required by code. But they don't do jack with an open ceiling in the closet. That and wouldn't hurt to insulate the ceiling over the garage either. Don't know how much that would help in summer, but it would help in the winter. Understand 85& of the heat is lost thru the ceiling.

Good Moring.
Figures, got a bunch of errands to run this morning and someone left the door open and let the cold in. At least it was unseasonably warmer this past weekend. Take the Cayenne in for some work this morning. Estimate is a week to fix. So...We will likely have our biggest snow storm in history this week.

Hey is it Monday again?
It was sooooo pretty yesterday. 62 degrees, blue skies, and no wind. I cleaned up in the garage a little and then took the 911 out for drive to get it up to full operation temp. The only curvy roads around here are interstate on-ramps. So it is a lot of straight roads but through some areas with unbelievable nice "estates" and huge houses. One place really looks like a Spanish Villa styled, Country club. It is on a 1/4 section so 1/4 square mile, 160 acres. I bet the fence alone cost more than my house. One place looks like a castle. It is built of all grey stone with the turrets and style of a castle. Lets just say it the area east of me is not a low rent area. It is the part of town with hills, trees, and a nice large lake. With most houses taking up many acres, the population density is low and traffic just not an issue.

Snowed here yesterday (still took the truck to get washed) but should be sunny today. High of 26*! High of 42* on Wednesday and a high of 15* on Thursday.

My business partner is going to Brainerd, MN next week. It is 5 degrees there now. He is not looking forward to the temperatures.
It looks like I my be going to Henderson, VA next week. It is a symposium on one of the software packages we use. It will be interesting.

Brainerd? He better be very careful, that's where the actual events in the movie Fargo happened? They just changed the name to Fargo because they thought it sounded better than Brainerd.
When I had my 914 there was an off ramp that was fun it made an ese. Then you could zip thru a cover car park with all kinds of cool exhaust amplification and echoes, then back out and up an on ramp. Sadly they have changed the roads and put up parking meters to get in and out of that car park. They always take all the fun out of things just to make room for more traffic.

Where I work the emloyees in manufacturing and assembly work 4, 10 hour shifts and work either Mon-Thur or Tue-Fri, they run both a day and a night shift like that.
Not sure why. Seems like 5, 8 hour shifts with 3 shifts a day would keep the machines running 24 hours a day instead of just 20. There have also been studies done that shows if employees work more than 8 hours a day for very long they start screwing up and quality drops. When I was managing the drafting and graphic arts department I talked this over with my guys and we did a test. Worked 10 hour days like production. In only 2 weeks they saw that they had to start spending more time fixing mistakes they had made that they would not have normally made. They saw the department actually lost productivity. We switched back to 8 hour days. They also decided if we needed overtime to finish projects they would rather come in on Saturdays than work longer days. Again because they felt like it was more productive.

I'd love to go back to getting paid OT for all the hours I work over 40 or get called at home at night and weekends.

Some days salaried sucks. But, I didn't have to clock out for my doctor appointment. That makes up for it, right?

I am an amazing problem solver/troubleshooter, even if I say so myself.
Driving the 928 I noticed a wind noise/whistle that started at about 40mph and went away at 50mph. When checking the oil I noticed a screw missing. On the 928 the area in front of the radiator is sealed from the engine compartment. There is a trim piece a couple of inches tall on the top of the radiator that has a rubber seal that seals against the hood. One either side in that trim piece is the cold air intakes. Between the two intakes are two 1/4 inch screws that hold the trim pieces and radiator together. With one of the screws missing it all seemed snug enough, but it left a 1/4 inch hole. Replaced the missing screw and no whistle. The pressure differential between the front of the radiator and the engine bay is just right to flow enough air thru that screw hole to whistle when going between 40 and 50 mph. It also tells me the design is not just a cold air intake but a ram air intake as well.

It always amazes me in used car adds when someone mentions they "added a cold air intake" to a Porsche that already has one from the factory...
And often, their cold air intake is under hood exposed cone air filter, not a cold air intake at all... |

It's pretty obvious on the 928 GTS when the air tubes are insulated, even though many say the foam insulation is for sound.

This is why I don't have a "smart" fridge...
![]() Being single living alone this would work for me... ![]() All the extra space in my fridge is filled with 1/2 gallon plastic milk jugs full of water to lessen the energy impact of opening and closing the door. Kinda afraid to put the watt meter on it to see if it is actually saving anything. The internet says it doesn't save because of the energy required to chill the water in the first place. Maybe should have started the project in winter and put the jugs outside overnight to chill/freeze. Might turn out like my timer switch idea. My porch light is dusk to dawn. Thought about putting a timer on it so it only works dusk to mid-nite. But with only a 9 watt LED bulb it would take over 2 years of operation for a timer to pay for itself with what it would save.
