On second thought, deal with enough guano as it is. Don't want to attract more on purpose.

Get off my lawn!
|
Today I am taking several hours off from the home office, and changing hats. I "get" to bowwow a pickup and drive down to Norman, OK and pick up a load of compost. Whooo Hoooo, party time. It is fun to shovel out a pickup. They dump it in with a front end loader, Thump, done. Haul it home and empty out the pickup with a shovel. The dang bosses wife is making me do physical labor!

Glen at least you don't have to load the truck with a shovel.

Yea, that is an option, but for $10 they will load it for us with the front end loader. We figure being senior citizens, we will let a front end loader and gravity fill up the truck in seconds is worth the 10 bucks. It is an easy decision.

Ahh, reminds me of my youth.
Dad got me out of bed early on a cold Saturday morning/..Borrowed a pickup, then I got the thrill of cleaning a horse barn, load up the pickup, then unload it spreading it out over our 15,000 sqft garden. Then an old man showed up with a tractor and plowed and disced up the garden. At least I didn't have to do that with our comparatively puny garden tractor. But did get to spend the next week going over the whole area with the roto-tiller. Had a similar Saturday happen only it was a sheep barn. Neither what i would call compost as much as 5hit. Not yet spring so was cold work. Which I guess is better than if it was hot and sweaty shoveling 5hit. We also did the thing where the garden was basically divided up into 7 sections. Each year one of the sections was left unplanted. The unplanted section was a different section each year. I got to till in all the garden, fruit tree, and kitchen scraps. Basicalliy making that whole section a big compost pile I got to run the tiller thru. Oh one year I did get kind of a break. Instead of 5hit, it got to till in gunny sack after gunny sack of cotton seed hulls. For all my labor I got to plant and grow several 100 ft long rows of okra that I harvested and sold a bushel of every other day all summer long.

I hate Mondays. When I retire I am not doing any more Mondays. I have a 34oz alloy "stick" that is going to beat Friday here come hell or high water. Which may come since we are supposed to get a lot of rain tomorrow.

Golly what fun that was.
Step one, go get the pickup, drive down to Norman, OK for the free compost. Well OK, we paid $10 for the free loading. And the guy running the loader was not the old pro that did it last time. He dumped in a giant mound that was taller than the cab of the pickup. Now we I am talking about a full size F150 1/2 ton pickup with the full size 4x8 foot bed. So step two, push a 1/4 ton or more off the pile onto the ground and out of the truck. Phew. Step three is tie down the tarp and head the 35 miles home. Then we untie the tarp, and I am real glad no boy scouts or sailors were there to see the knots we used, and the method we used for securing the tarp. It worked so screw em all. ![]() Then start shoveling. As you can see my driveway is very sticky. These are the oversize rejects. They call it compost but it is closer to mulch this year. The city of Norman takes resident's yard waste. Big limbs get run through the chipper. Smaller limbs and bushes just get run over with the dozer and broken up a lot. Then they let them compost for a few years along with grass clippings and likely some manure. Shoveling it is difficult because all the sticks are interlocked. As you try to shovel the shovel stops because there is a stick in the way. In the end it works great as mulch-compost and Mrs. Carrera will be spreading it around in all the flower beds. I will be digging holes I am sure.

I thought you already had a pickup tru...car.
Plus, everyone should have their own skid steer loader.
