Looking at a .22, just for target practice, nothing too expensive, but good quality.
What advice can the Pelican Brain Trust come up with?
Thanks in advance.
Ruger Mk II .22's are great little pistols if you like autos, and their .22 single six is an absolute blast to own and fire.

My brother had one in his shop last week. SUPER cool little SMG or whatever you want to call it.

Walther also makes a super nice little .22 target pistol, the P-22. LOVE those little pistols, and very cool looking too!

.22's are by far the best possible caliber to learn to shoot with.

I'd think that the benefit of a .22 conversion on your regular gun (if it existed) would be that you'd be practicing with your normal grip, trigger, sights, etc.... So lets say you buy a .22 that's got a DAO trigger and your main gun is a DA/SA. Now, you've fired 1000 rounds of the DAO for every 100 rounds of your main gun. It might be nice if both guns were identical except for the kick and cost.

I'd think one of those expensive conversions would be paid for pretty quick with todays ammo prices, especially if your main gun is anything other than 9mm.

You can shoot a 22 LR all day for the the same amount of money that 20 minutes with a larger caliber will cost you.

22's are easy on the recoil, easy on the pocket book and will do for self defense.

ALWAYS BUY THE BEST QUALITY YOU CAN AFFORD, IT PAYS OFF IN TE LONG RUN.

BUY USED IF YOU CAN, BE PATIENT.

Two ways to proceed

1. U can purchase a 22 Revolver..six shots.

A. S&W mdl 17...gona cost you about $500
B. Colt Officers Model...gona cost you about $500 to $600

Either gun is Quality and if in excellent shape and kept will appreciate in value.

2. Semi Auto..you have many choices..

A. Ruger MK1, MK2 ore even a MK3..they have been make this pistol for nealy 60 years. Their are a galzillion of them out there....prices start right around $200 to $220 and go up. My prefrence would be the 5 inch Bull Barrel.

B. Browning Challenger, Buckmark, Benchmark..well made pistols that will do everything you want. I have not kept up with the used market on these. My guess would be about $300. for anice used one

C. Walther P22...very nice modern 22 auto, new they are around $325 or so.

D. Colt Woodsman, Huntsman, Challenger...out of production since the late 70's, classic. About $500 up

E. S&W Mdl 41...about $700, been making em for over 40 years. Great target gun

F. High Standard...Sometimes you can score a nice mid 50's Supermatic for around $325 and they go up...great balance and super accurate. This was THE pistol to have in the 50's until the mid 60's.

+1 on the Colt woodsman or the Browning. You won't lose money on either one of them later.....when you buy a 1911. tabs advice is spot on.

That's my Btowning...a challenger...no top rib on mine, otherwise the same. Adjustable trigger. Mine set a tad too light right now. Paid $79.50 for mine...back in 1970. Think I'll keep it.

May sneak one into the collection soon. What's the difference between a MK II and MK III?

What a fair price for a MKII?

Why would one choose a Ruger or the Walther .22? Pros. Cons.

That's next for me...I think. I have the "shinny penny" syndrome when it comes to guns.

Nice gun, Bill.

One should look for a made in Belgium Browning...but we who have them tend to hang on to them.

I'll give you $80 for your Browning Paul. $0.50 profit is good considering you've been wearing it out since the 70's

What's a good condition Browning go for these days? ($80 right, Paul? )

Walk away from the light.

Unless, of course, you find two.

Then turn around...and call me.

Naw, I'll resist. I not much of a pistol guy, I have my old Colt autos and that works for me. Now if "I" was looking for another pistol, "I" would be looking for a Colt M1908 in .380. to complete the set.

I just STOLE a SIG P226R with night sights, near new in box (date code 02/09) for $499 at Cabela's. I can't believe they let me walk out with this gun for that price. They said a lot of folks had called about it, but I was the first who showed up. Now I need to sell my other P226.

I have a P22 and I'm not that impressed with it. It is a very small gun, and I have a tough time shooting it. I love my Buckmark however, and put more rounds through that than any of the 10 other firearms in the safe. I prefer the angle of the Buckmark relative to the Ruger.
