Glad to know that I'm not the only one into these

I too still have knives from my childhood, Old Timer, Buck, Case, Swiss Army (actually have one of these in each car and has saved my butt in the past, the tools not the blade) My current fave, is BENCHMADE, a buddy got me into those about 10 years ago..

Funny, as much as I have always like sharp things, I have never really carried one, other than while hunting, or crewing races, the only other time is when I'm smoking cigars, I carry this nifty "lil" guy.

Most of the time, other than the SA in my Kits & and Old Timer I have had since 6 years old (found it) that is in my tool box, the rest stay nicely oiled and in a box stored..

Dammit. I used to own one of these; it had the name of the grocery store where I worked on the handle ("Buttreys" ) Lost it in a burglary.

Often called a "fruit testing knife" or a "melon knife".

Schrade makes one that is inexpensive, but comes with the standard yellow Schrade handles.
Schrade® Fruit Sampler Folder with Yellow Celluloid Handle

A stainless one can be had for a little more $.

Now I carry a Spyderco Byrd Finch (small and inexpensive, but plenty of utility):

and a Victorinox Classic :

My daily carry leatherman and the TEKNA that I keep around the house for general use.... The quickest way to die would be to attempt to remove my leatherman from me....

wow someone else is crazy as a loon for cutlery like me. no pics yet but i'll have to snap some.

i like military bayonets and dive knives. ya know big ol honking ones, that take weeks to get an edge with a diamond stick.

rambo knives are GAY!

hk-91 bayonet

m-1 carbine bayonet

m-14 bayonet

poseidon "mutha of ALL dive knives" dive knife

SOG seal pup

usn seal dive knife

usn issue knife

m-9 bayonet

gerber BMF-these are getting REAL damn spendy

gerber lil baby BMF-ditto above

gerber whitewater knife for scuba B.C.vest

scads of box cutters everywhere

x-acto knives everywhere

the ol ladys HEINKEL kitchen set

machetes-love these for slamming an 18pak and ATTACKING CHOLLA CACTUS when its 116 degrees F out. always fun getting stuck with cholla spines.

assorted swiss army knives

assorted buck knives

WWII german issue knive

somewhere laying around is my puerto penasco(rocky pt) messiko, messikan switch blade.

over the years of skinning ELK and DEER/JAVA-LEANERS(javelina) we have found the BEST way to SKIN a critter and not hassle with loosing an edge on nasty hides is throwaway BOX cutters.

the M-9 LAN-CAY holds a very nice edge for skinning ELK.

a few ontario knives laying around and a few schrade knives also.

now that you MENTION IT...............i guess i do have a KNIFE FETISH!

my fave pocket knife.............my BENCHMADE HK knife. literally you CAN SHAVE WITH IT!

p.s. a couple leatherman and gerber multi tools.

I have a drawer-full of 'folders', I pick one, carry it a week or two, then change - no real favorite.

Here are some larger ones I purchased at estate sales this summer:

Left - Edge Brand - Solingen Germany (stamped 160)

Middle - Wildcat Brand - Solingen Germany (stamped B47X)

Right - Homemade Skinning knife

*All have 'horn' handles. The two German knives have edges you can shave with.

Left - Cardinal Cutlery NYC

Right - no markings ( may have fallen out of a UFO? )
