I have a question for all of you with those single blade fast opening "badass" knives with a pocket clip for fast draw.
What did you last use that knife for? Something my decades old Case 3 bladed medium stockman slipblade can't do? just curious...

Unless you need it for work... A nice carry knife is about "Bling".
(I've got a small collection)

I don't consider mine "bad ass," but I guess it fits your definitiion. It's one of those with the spider on it - don't remember the brand name at the moment (senior?) - Spider Built, Spider something. It's good size, heavy, and the blade is about 3/16 in. thick. I use it for scraping, punching holes, digging, opening things, sometimes cutting, and whatever else. I paid over $200 for it and plan to get my money's worth. I don't pay much for knives. I posted a pic in the knife thread a long time ago.
Edit: I posted pics of it in post 159 of this thread.

I have 2 dozen slipjoint knives. I collect, use and love them but one issue is they (by choice) are all carbon steel. No good for food prep. And dulls quick. For most all tasks I use one of my spyderco knives for food, boxes, etc….either a paramilitary 2 or my favorite the manix 2 with partial serration.

I always thought the automatic stiletto was cool growing up. Finally got one about 25 years ago. Then I bought the Boker because it seemed well-made. That said, the spring is so stiff and that knife so smooth, it’s sometimes hard to hold onto it. Obviously, it doesn’t get much use.
What does get a lot of use, is my Gerber knife which opens with the flick of my thumb. It’s just as quick as an automatic. ![]()

I never much cared for lock back knives that required 2 hands to open and close, and non-locking knives were just as bad. I really liked the clip because the knife was always in the same place, it didn't matter if I was wearing tight pants, loose pants, dress pants, jeans, pants with extra deep pockets or more shallow pockets. The knife was always in the same exact spot. I didn't have to dig around at the bottom of a pocket. At the time, because my main use and the reason that I bought it was to slice lemons and limes (I worked in a bar), so the blade was up around 4" long. I've since moved on to something smaller/shorter (3" blade). Another of my wants was a blade made of steel that holds an edge better than your avg stainless. Most of the knives that I started with had ATS-34 steel with a RC of 59-61 or maybe 60-62. I've since had one or two with D2 tool steel, and my current carry knife is S30V. I'm not sure if I've ever had to sharpen it. It doesn't get used nearly as often but wow, it's holding an edge.

"Trophy" knife according to some bystanders - though to me it's actually kind of crap. Big, dodgy steel that won't keep an edge. So basically it just weighs down my garter _and_ it ain't sharp. I picked it up somewhere from some guy - it was a fun training exercise to watch though. For me it's a knockaround homedespot/dump toy at this point.
![]() EDC is this nice 2018-ish toy from Idaho. Small sebenza - small enough to fit in/atop a normal pocket, locks up like a vault, has the little blue pivot/bling to draw the odd sort of (referenced above) bystander which is either a minus or an interesting story...

I've handled both the regular version and the automatic version of that knife. I really like them.

That looks like a sheiße ton of money for what amounts to a utility knife. Too rich for my blood. They should sell it in a Snap-On van.

first time ordering from the Buck Custom Shop. I just received a custom 501 with buffalo horn and magna cut steel. i’m blown away. i have some really high end knives and this is an instant favorite. probably the first knife i have ever received that is truly 100% perfect and flawless. perfect size in pocket too. I have standard run Bucks and none of them were perfect…blade play, proud tip, off center blade…all needing some work by me. not this one.
I also ordered a custom 110 with elk stag and magna cut steel and finger grooves. I ordered that one a week or so before the 501 so I am hoping any week now it will come. but this 501 is never leaving my pocket.
