Yep, I'm in the "Every Year" Club myself

Sammy, the Team you are taking "One" for is your family, remember that..

Having had a few friends die from Colon cancer, you really don't want to take any chances..

colonoscopy

Yeah, the clean-out is interesting. Everything comes out - plastic armyman, dead gerbil, ex-wife's pinkie ring.

Going for my second in 3 yrs in May. Had one polyp removed in 2010, the nasty kind that'll get you. Lucky for me. How'd I get there? I got campylobacter for Christmas, 2009, led to endo and colon scopes, led to finding the bad polyp. No family history, regular as a German train. Just one of those things.

Beware: the drugs are like a truth serum. Though you won't remember anything, you're not unconscious and you are responsive to questions. They need you to be able to move around on the table some and they ask you things like if you hurt, or would like some Kenny G. on the MP3, etc. When I came to in the o/p recovery, my wife, MD, and nurse were laughing. They wouldn't tell me what was so funny. My wife later told me that my MD, an African American, told my wife I'd need to come back in 3 yrs and I said something like once you go black, you never go back.

I took a bottle of Ardbeg with me for the MD and some coins for the Charon as I'd asked my wife to smother me with a pillow if they found someting real bad.

The anxiety greatly exceeded the actual event. I plan on dying by some other much more fun way.

Here's the pics!

Thanks for the info guys....as it turns out I'm scheduled for this in 2 weeks.....looking forward to it!

No immediate family history but my FIL passed away at the age of 65 from this....it was no fun watching him go through this, let me tell you!

I've actually been "on the wait list" for this procedure for almost 3 years so hopefully all will be good down there?

Cheers!

Alex

I hear ya Rika! Unfortunately that's the Canadian/Alberta health care system at work.....it's a great system but....sometimes ya gotta wait!

I meant to say that my FIL passed away from Colon C at the age of 65....about a month after he retired.....he was a great guy to boot!
My wife has had several scopes done as a result of her family history and so far so good!

Just went through the thread and didn't see that I reported post op.

Huge non-event!

The purge the night before, forcing down a couple liters lime flavored goo... the second liter was hard to get down but hey, I have drank worse things (shots of tequila).

Yeah, so there is an hour of two of running back and forth to the toilet... big deal...so none of you ever got drunk on Budweiser and had the squirts? (I highly recommend do NOT have jalapeno poppers as the meal just before this!).

Day of the event, first wife rats me out to the nurse that I drank sake (rice wine) the night before after I did the purge (hey, it is a clear fluid!) nurse laughed and said no big deal.

In and out (no pun intended) in an hour, no pain or discomfort at all!

Found a few benign polyps, mom had CC so I'm back in three years.

Have no fear, let them examine your rear.

Likewise.....didn't report a post-op:

All went well and no issues down there....I was just amazed at how clean and white it is in there...it looked like a brand new piece of white PVC pipe! The next one is recommended in 10 years....which I think is way too long so I'll try for another one in 5.

Scott, did they remove and biopsy the polyps?

Yes, removed and we got a letter in mail from lab that there is nothing to worry about.

And double yes on 10 years seems way too long... I thought the standard was every 5 after you are fifty years old?

Pretty sure they bumped me to three because my mom had colon cancer.

started the drugs were already hitting me so I looked up at the monitor... after a few seconds I realize I was looking at my insides and opted to close my eyes and take a little nappy-poo and let them wake me when it was all over.

AND NO NEED TO POST PICS!!!!

Joanna just hed hers done a little ealy this year.

Now, most of us are in great health and can be 20' away from a toilet for the night before.

Poor girl at age 47 needs a walker. For her time to cleanse she just sat in the bathroom for the duration!

Man, there is so much I don't remember. I'm super-sensitive to meds - from when the nurse said, "I'm going to give you your first dose" until my wife is walking me to the car - I remember nothing. I asked her, "how did I get dressed?" After she stopped laughing (insert punch line), I'm told that I was entertaining as usual. Wow.

Here's my Jackass idea for my next one (10 years - woot!): After the colon cleanse and about five hours before the procedure, I'm going to swallow a few Yellow marbles that I have painted various messages to the doc. "Good morning!" "Look over here!" "Have you seen my car keys?" Yes, I am seriously that juvenile.

I have the opposite problem with opiates.

I have told a few ER Docs and their "um yea" so after 45 minutes the first push is done! I mean I can get up on a table and tapdance ! My heart race is back in the 0's and I'm sweating in pain. That's when they tend to give me something that isn't opiate based and I
m clear in my head to what I'm saying but know one understands me. I must have been a heroin user in a past life. ( My mom has the same issue , first time I ever saw a 1,000 count bottle of vicodin was in her medicine cabinet )
