has anyone reported a mechanic to the bureau of automotive repair?

well i am on the brink of reporting a mechanic to the BAR (bureau of automotive repair) i took my car in june 12 mechanic says its goin to be done in two weeks, well its goin on its 5th week. supposedly this is suppose to be one of the better p shops around this area.

i get excuses everytime i call and promises of phone calls back to me for updates. so has anyone reported to bar and had any luck?

Do a search on this site/forum for Motormeister....tons of info there..

I and others also reported Jimmy Deering to them and the CHP. It was a long fight but he ended up doing some time...not nearly enough though...I still despise that SOB.

Sorry to hear..that sucks, out of curiosity why did you take the car to this mechanic / shop? I am trying to understand the situation for example 5 weeks for an engine out and re-seal might be acceptable, 5 weeks for an oil change is not.

I am not trying to defend this shop, but I do all the maintenance and work on my 911 and I consider myself a decent wrench, some projects that I estimate will take a weekend or two creeps to well over a month if you factor in broken bolts, seized this that and the other etc etc.

At the end of the day the shop does owe you the professional courtesy of good communication and a status on your car.

They probably got some better jobs that involved more parts ( read profits) and put your car at the back of the line.

If they don't have the car apart and you can drive it why don't you pick it up and take it to another shop? Pay up and take it away. If I was mad enough I would trailer it out.

^^^This^^^

Not an excuse but reality of most shops. The true problem is the lack of communication not only to you, but between the wrenches/owner of the shop and for that, there is no excuse IMO. Had you known, going in, that the service might be delayed due to more "serious" jobs, you would have had the choice of taking your car elsewhere or making it clear--right then and there-- what your outside time limit would be and the need for updates.

There is no excuse for BS excuses like "waiting for a hose". That should be enough to go directly to the owner, confront him with the conflicting information and demand the return of your car (after paying for service done) right now.

Bottom line, this shop doesn't really need your work so you're treated accordingly.

We run into situations like that at our ......occasionally, but always make time or would've art least got done the majority of what we could.....
Sounds like it was” forgotten” about due to other scheduling, and pushed back, I would call and set up a time to meet with the owner and discuss it.......if he can't satisfy you take the car to someone else......

16 hours of labor should've been completed in less than a week, mind you you have a large list of tedious things, so my concern now would be him rushing through them and not getting done correctly.......

My mechanic should be reported!

He is unlicensed, works out of his garage with a lack of professional tools, takes too long, works inefficiently.
He's never even been trained to be a mechanic.

Every time I turn the key, I'm amazed the car even starts when he's through with it.
Nobody should trust him with a wrench.

He's a real moron. Oh, wait...... That would be me....

I know an idiot mechanic just like that. That sucker will even drink beer while working on my car! He has done a few bonehead things over the years. The problem is I can't fire him or I will have to PAY someone to do the work!

There are LOTS of choices in the inland empire. Specialized Porsche Service (Jay Ward) in Riverside, and 911 Design (Loren) in Montclair to name two. First class customer service and communication, but they are not cheap though.

If you are talking about Precision Motion, yeah...sometimes they can be a bit slow and uncommunicative. If you haven't spoken to Don (the owner) yet, ask for him and express your concerns. He is usually responsive once he is made aware of a problem. They are a very knowledgeable and reasonably priced shop but they do have poor customer service when things get busy there which they often do.

I think all small shops run into this problem now and then. I will have a large job scheduled for the week. And then something happens,( like waiting a week or longer for a hose), and then, the next week, when the parts show up, I am knee deep in the big job I have scheduled for that week. Next thing I know I am two weeks behind ,and the work is still pouring in the door, and I am working 75 hour work weeks trying to catch up. Sometimes, it can take me a month, before I am above water, and ready to schedule new work again. All the while, the phone is ringing, with more new work, and customers checking up on existing work. I really do try to keep the lines of communication open, but even that can be hard when you are under the gun, and up against a deadline with a customer, or two who are growing impatient.
These are the times when being a small shop owner sucks.
