Not to hijack, but I find just about all Colt guns to be disappointing given the prices they command. If you want to go north of $1000, I'd seriously consider an LMT. My next one that I don't build will be an LMT or a SIG 551. You can snatch decent DPMS or Del-Ton rifles for under $600 if you really shop. They're kind of fun to build too.

I dunno, having used both the colt and the RRA id have to say for an average joe, the rra is more user friendly. IMHO....

80% build. Find one local and build several. I hate black guns but then a AR does not have to be black...haha.

Yup. I like the high top on my bushmaster,( I have a long neck) and I got bit by the bug of adding twenty pounds of battery powered crap onto a lightweight rifle. The taclight and scope were the only things that survived the purging. I also am not a fan of a fore end that is square and has tac rails running all down the sides. I just don't find it comfortable.
Miad grip with the finger relief delete and thick back strap, Magpul fore end with short tac rail, and full stock. It just fits me well. The bipod went by-by too

Unfortunately very few ARs are made to the mil-spec.
Of those mentioned, Noveski and maybe LMT meets it in most areas. RRA, Bushmaster, DPMS do not and are hobby guns Bravo Company Manuf. meets the spec as do some Colts It may not matter to some Troy |

Why not get a used pre-ban? They are out there. Then you will have a REAL AR 15

why buy a AR-15 with ALL OF ITS INHERENT POODLE SHOOTER PROBLEMS???????
if hell bent on a POODLE SHOOTER ROUND............... then BUY a SIG or HK-416. that ALWAYS GO BANG! only reason and i mean the ONLY REASON that the entire u.s. miltary ISNT using an HK is...........................COST PER UNIT! so whats yer life worth??????? me? hands down any .308 platform. HK/FN/M-14 why? because i can knock a POODLE /ELK/DEER/ANTELOPEZZ/BEAR into the next county on his AZZ! but the best part: vaporizing 8x8x 16 blocks and a poodle round aint gonna do that without expending quite a few rounds. ask me how i know.

my buddy bought a whole gaggle of ar's over the years. each and every time we went out with the latest greatest...........either a FTF or a FTE or sum damn problem.
in the meantime just to piss him off, i let loose with 20-30 rounders out of my hk-91 or my m-14's and not one problem. this time after time really pissed him off. he bought usgi ammo, same problems, he reloaded super zoomy mega .223's..............same damn problem. buys cheap azz russian ammo and the problems compounded themselves. then thinking he would kick the problem in the azz he buys the ultra uber zoomy carbon fiber ar-15 out of lake havasu ,az.............and alas the samo FTE and FTF problems rear their ugly heads again. finally he took my advice and bought a freeking FN/FAL and has never cleaned it and it just keeps on shooting. amazing huh? bored next time out shooting? yank a 8x8x16 block and shoot it with a .223 round(usgi) and then shoot it with a .308(usgi) and see what happens. it will be an EYEOPENER and you will fer sure understand the implications of being a bad guy and squaring off against a .308 from behind a block wall "thinking" you have good cover. emphasis on the "thinking" part. wants some more proof??? set another cinder block up and nail it with a 30.06 and then nail it with a .300 win mag and see what i mean. now why since the gulf war has mcmillian firearms and arrington accuracy been burning the midnight oil mfg. M-14's??? they cant build enuff. because after the experiences of .223 failure to knockdown bad guy EVERY squad now gets a DM(designated marksman) with a freeking M-14. one shot-one kill, i rest my case. gi's since vietnam would give their left huevos and right huevos for a M-14 instead of an M-16 for knockdown power. and when its winter time and bad guys have multiple layers of jackets on, the problem is COMPOUNDED and bad guy doesnt go down with one shot. samo with the M-9 9mm. why do ya think .45's are making such a comeback??? KNOCKDOWN POWER! amazing we didnt have this problem in wwII with the m-1 garand 30.06 huh? but WTF do i know??? i know this if i was drafted and they handed me a freeking m-16, i would either have a M-14 issued to me or i would be sent to leavenworth because this "NOBODY" aint going into battle with a "POODLE SHOOTER!" PERIOD! my .0000000000002 centavos worth. for what its worth................think real hard before ya "hide" behind a block wall, "thinking" you have good cover, and take a shot at me with my .308. "and dem walls came a TUMBLING DOWN!"

Geez... chill out OJU. I have a bunch of different types of rifles: 30-06 deer rifle, .44 mag Marlin lever, .22 rifles and yes an "evil" "plastic" AR15.
I have NEVER had ANY issues with my RRA AR15..... I mainly shoot cheap azz Wolf and Brown Bear russian ammo. I never had any problems with my old beat up Vietnam era M16 I shot in basic training either. I have no doubt that they could indeed have problems out in the field once a week or two of dirt/dust/sand crud gets in them. That said.... an AR in .223 makes a fine varmint gun (as would a simple bolt action .223). An AR however can also handle large cheap mags and can double as a home/property defense and a fun plinking/range weapon and is easily outfitted with a light and various types of scopes. I think the haters go a bit overboard every time the subject of AR15's come up.... Reminds me of Sniper who hated every handgun known to man other than his squeeze cocker.

Here in California with the 10 round limit if you didn't buy your mags prior to 12/31/1999 I really have a hard time thinking about .223. If I can only have 10 in the mag make them .308 or? Beowulf 50 Caliber Vs. Propane Tanks, Cinder Blocks, Cows... - YouTube

The new production 22 conversion kits are almost ready to start shipping from our group buy... after that, they will be regular production item and make shooting the FAL much more affordable.

i wonder why. man with all of this topsy turvey politico crap going, mass murders, and general lack of safety for peoples in non spoon states(windy city), ammo again is getting spendy and SCARCE! my collecting of spoons has radically changed to collecting AMMO! WTF? crap IT(ammo) IS AN INVESTMENT NOW! and its coming time for OJU to finally break down, spend the money and get a dillon reloader. its probably gonna be my xmas prezent to myself. i am no stranger to it and already have my .308 dies and my .338 dies. wanna damn good PICTURE of .308 ammo and costs PER ROUND updated about every 2 weeks????????? go to m-14forum.com and click on ammo scroll down and you will see the header re: ammo prices across the nation, surplus, match, plinking etc etc. right now..............."out of stock" over and over and OVER! i can remember 35 freeking years AGO, grumbling about .308 surplus ammo being .25 cents a pop every time i fired my newly acquired HK-91! yeah .25 cents a freeking rd back then. now its more like a $1.00 A POP! YIKKERS! i'm looking local right now to beat freight costs and cabelas has some bulk federal plinker rds in stock. ya cant beat a FN, i love some of the DSA selections and am very very tempted before they skyrocket in cost. just to have one and they are a hell of alot of fun, as long as ya clean them like any battle rifle and not shoot the lowest of the low cheapest of the cheap ammo thru them. the .22 kits for an hk are like $500 bucks or so +/-. a .22 kit for the FN is great way to plink with them. the 3 main battle rifles of the PLANET didnt get their reputation for ALWAYS GOING BANG because they were POS. they earned that reputation for being reliable. HK-G-3 M-14 FN/FAL but after watching the tests on the HK-416, once again HK has proven they can take anybodies design and IMPROVE THE HELL OUT OF IT so it does always go bang. but once again HK came in at high bidder and lost. the HK 417 in .308 is a wonderful platform, the FN SCAR is a wonderful platform. i like the SIG in .223 for a poodle plinker and it would be a damn tough decision between the HK-416 and the SIG. a DAMN TOUGH DECISION. and the LAST THING I NEED IS ANOTHER ROUND TO SUPPORT! hell i wish i could get food stamps for all of my children(spoons). so being a cheap ass like i am, probably a nice basic, no foo foo crap, except maybe a scope mount on an FN from DSA would suit me fine. but remember a .223 is MARGINAL on kritters aside from poodles and coyotes(the trickster) and thin skinned deer. i think you would be a very unethical hunter going after antelopezz or elk or big colorado or north rim mule deer or bear with a .223. and YOU would go very very hungry unless a point blank kill shot on bigger kritters as they flip ya off and say adios. the ENTIRE SECRET TO HUNTING IS KNOCKING THEM DOWN! PERIOD! once that kritter runs, theres no telling where its gonna end up and YOU can be chasing it for miles searching for blood splatter after dark. and more than likely it will become wasted game which really is a SIN! just remember this with .308 168gr BTHP FEDERALS which i use A LOT! if yer shot is from 1yd to roughly 200 yds on thin skinned kritters(deer), that damn BOOLIT(bullet) is going so damn fast your exit hole will be the exact same as your entry hole unless hitting bone. if ya hit any vitals, the kritter is still gonna pump adrenalin and haul ass off into the next county, unless severe blood loss(heart) occurs. samo happens with my .338 win mag 250 grains on deer. yes its OVERKILL! bullet is traveling at mega warp 10 speed. if it hits bone, it KNOCKS THEM INTO NEXT COUNTY , and i mean LIFTS THEM INTO THE FREEKING AIR! awesome visual, but a lot of wasted meat. 45/70 on the other hand is such a BIG WAD OF VOODOO POO going slow, just STEAMROLLS THEM and PILE DRIVES THEM INTO THE GROUND! just ask a couple mill-yon indians and buffalo how well they work. 45/70 is my elk/bear/mtn kitty brush spoon. iron sights only. so each to his own, i just write what has happened to me over the years.

I'm thinking of having some custom engraving done on my next one. I'm gonna call it the Porwolf or the Feinstein.

well one of mine my model 66 smith .357 MAGNUM(haha) is now OFFICIALLY NAMED "OLIVIA" as it was built here in the good 'ol u.s.a, then shipped to OZ, and then never used and then sold back into the U.S.A. and landed in my grubby lil dwarf hands. for dirt cheap, unfired no moleste.
i think i will name another one(whichever has the most muzzle flash) either the hk-91 or m-14 with 50rd drum: "DUH-WOLF!" maybe we should explain to them, that the "endangered wolf" in wyoming is NOW NO LONGER ENDANGERED..................that is until i lay my sights on one. yepper WOLVES IN WYOMING ARE FAIR GAME NOW! LEGAL BEAGLE TO HUNT! i'd like some wolf slippers, or some wolf mittens. or maybe a wolf vest. or some wolf undies. or maybe a wolf tie. maybe even a wolf toilet seat cover. howz bouts a WOLF GOLF HAT!
