I saw a guy with a 356 with a Serotta on a rack coming home. We sere both stuck on the freeway so I was chacking out his bike as I know nothing about 356s.

That's a Bstay Someone say Colnago? I may have shown the yellow one before? I just came across the blue C40 about 6 months ago, so I am slowly putting it together. I just need to adjusted to fit me. A pic of an old Merlin I bought from the same guy. Still apart with only few items on there. |

I have a compact crank on one of my bike, but I find it to be a little small on the faster training rides. I am still riding 53x39 with a 12-23 10 spd out back unless I know I have to climb 5000' then i swap out freewheel to a 27. I am getting 11 spd but wan to try a 52x36. I think that's a great combo. |

Rutager,
I have no idea how old you are, but what I have seen from some of the older guys I used to race with (they have 10 years on me), they are all in pretty darn good shape and are still very fast. I think if you keep riding you shouldn't have to give up too much speed as you age (unless if you are sprinting). I know guys that are in their late 50, to early 60s that are hauling ass with the young guys (I ride their training rides every Saturdays). I started riding seriously since 16 and raced for many years after that. Hung up my bike for 10+ years and started up again about 10 years ago. It took me some time to get back into the thick of things, but I am keeping up (sucking wheel is more like it) with some of the big dogs. I am 51 now, lots of the fast twitch speed has been lost, so I have to really work at it. Now, I like the long slight up hills that go on for a 4-5 miles. That's where legs are broken. |

Ah hell, here's me checking out this thread. It took a couple years of hard work to get back into riding with the hammer heads

You only have a couple years on me, I mostly commute these days; good distance, 20 miles each way. I'll do it through the winter except for snow and ice- have a rod in my lower leg to remind me not to ride on the ice! Even had the studs when I crashed. Agree on the hills, being a good climber can drop guys quickly. Best, Rutager

![]() My C40 on Lightweights ![]() The CentoUnoAir, might be on the market ![]() 2012 Supersix, the workhorse ![]() The classic Technos That c40 you have is strikingly similar. You'll love the way it rides, I was skeptical but the legend is true. That Merlin is also one of the finest riding bikes made, that or a Seven is on my bucket list.

Hey, I love the Gammo stem on that Steel Colnago. I have a threadless Gamme Ti stem that I love to use on the C40, but I like the fatter Shimano Bar too much. It wouldn't fit the Gammo stem.

The c40 is about perfect for me, as I'm really light, but I could see how a big guy would prefer the b stay version or a c50.

I am not big at all, but like to romp on it getting off the saddle out of a turn to get back up to speed. I like to dish out a little pain on our ride when I can. The Time or my Ridley is perfect for that. The C40 would have been just perfect, but after riding the Time, I can say there's a little difference there but its so minor that I really don't think it really matters since I am not racing. the way I look at it is similar to having a car with tune suspension vs a car with street suspension going around a turn on the fwy on ramp. Sure, I can feel it, but who really cares?
Those big bars are nice and stiff, love them. |
