Slight rant. Don't like logos on my wheelset.
I just bought an inexpensive pair of road wheels. Dammit, do they have to be stickered up like something from a triathlete bike at the Ha'waii Ironman? I know they're cheap-charlies, just something to get through the winter on my wet bike; now I have to advertise that fact to every knowledgeable roadrider out there that I'm NOT on rovals or enve's? In fact, even if they were expensive, they'd still look ridiculous, it's just that then it would be pretentious instead of pathetic.
And, of course, 95% of the sticky goo stayed when I pulled off the stickers, so an hour or so per wheel with goo gone to look forward to.... (The good thing though, it's amazing what you can get for very little money in a road wheel these days. Just wish there was an sticker delete option.) Now get off my lawn! Rant over.

Anybody looking for a nice, vintage Waterford?
From the "early" years. I believe either a '93 or '94. Was one of 18 that we had made in this paint scheme for a WI club. 55cm with mostly Chorus. Exception is a Record crank and American Classic Seatpost. ![]() ![]() |

I bought a couple bikes for downhill this season. My son is riding the Giant Glory & I'm on the RM Pipeline.

I’ve been thinking about getting a full suspension MTB to replace my old hardtail since I road a buddy’s a while back. I thought about buying one of the new Trek or Specialized XC carbon bikes but didn’t want to drop $4k so during a weak moment over the Christmas holiday I bought a used Trek aluminum Top Fuel frame. I figured I could use some parts off my hardtail to keep costs down but things tumbled out of control with Fox Factory fork and shock, Shimano XTR components and a pair of custom Wheel Builders wheels. Just finished tonight:

Nice ride. I have two Trek Fuels that I have built up and while it is kinda late for your to get this advice but the Fox-Trek DRCV suspension components are worth getting if you can.

You guys are killing me. I have a 3 year rule with buying new bikes and am coming up on it in about 6 weeks.
I've demoed a Santa Cruz Hightower LT and I'm going to do the regular Hightower in two weeks. And then there's an Evil dealer that's going to set me up with The Following to try out as well. Anything else you guys suggest looking at? I'm on a Trance X 29er and will finally be stepping up to a carbon bike with the new purchase.

27.5 plus = FS
29 plus = HT Depends what kind of riding and terrain you have. I prefer a fatty for conditions here right now. Studs helpful. ![]() ![]()

Aaah yes, the Pivot Switchblade is also under consideration.
I've checked out the Yeti bikes and they're cool, but that front lower linkage is odd. I should ride one though.

Not sure if they even make a carbon frame but the folks around here with Transition bikes all love them. Worth considering. I'm sure being the 'local' builder has some effect on those feelings but in the end the bikes work really well.

Well, I finally bought that new bike I was talking about getting. But I decided against the Specialized Roubaix I had planned on buying. I bought this instead:
![]() It's a Cannodale Synapse with SRAM Red eTap HRD groupset. The crank is a Quarq (owned by SRAM) Carbon and has a Quarq DZero power meter spyder installed. I only have one 20 miles on it but I love it! The bike is light, fast, and responsive. It handles great but has some flex built in to key places (seat tube, seat stays, chain stays, and forks) to improve comfort. The disc brakes are a quite good. I am already contemplating some carbon clincher wheels that can also use tubeless tires.

Changing subject.... Has anyone here tried heat moldable cycling shoes? If yes, what do you think? If no, what do you think?

Yes, it is. eTap is much more intuitive than Di2 and I am already used to the Shimano system. It's expensive but I am really glad I got it. The disc brakes are great too.

Converted my Slice Tri bike to ETap and my Supersix Evo will be getting it this year, If I don't sell it and get a new Trek Madone..

You'll love the Synapse. I ride a Supersix and my s/o has a Synapse. It's 90% of a Supersix with even more comfort (and the Supersix is on of the most comfortable race oriented bikes I've had).
Can't wait to try etap-have all the other groups somewhere in the stable, and they're all excellent in their own way, so I'm sure etap will have its own charms.
