One for the "it figures" files. Get the new bike home, do some saddle adjustments and while hopping off I twisted the wrong way at the wrong time and the lower back goes "pop." I'd actually had a good run of no back problems for the past year. Sigh. Ice and a long walk at least keeping me semi-upright. Looks like the break-in ride will have to wait. Getting old seriously blows...

On the upside, the bike is pretty damn sweet. While I understand the benefit of thru-axle front fork it seems like the threads will gunk up quickly. And this tubeless thing is pretty crazy. Technology marches on...

I have a crap back. When I hurt it, which is maybe 2X year for a couple weeks at a time, every activity and position is painful - walking, standing, sitting. The only things that don't hurt are laying down - and riding my bike. I'll be squirming in my chair at work, can't wait to get on the bike and not hurt.

Hope your back is better soon!

I'd forgotten about that aspect. Just spun around the block and the back was fine while riding - just need to be really carefully mounting/dismounting (no more 2-1/2 in the pike position). And I have to walk like a hunchback to the garage

Dialing in the cockpit. So now brake lever clamps use a t-25 head - wtf? Time for a new bike tool...

Initial perception - 29'er is a tall bike but FS is the bomb. Can't wait to get it dirty. The beach bike path will have to suffice for later today.

Talk about bad timing. I hope you get to hop on the new rig soon. Getting old does blow but it beats the alternative.

Wood bikes & components. Funny as I too have been thinking about this stuff.

I took John's advice and "just did it." Yesterday I tweaked the cockpit and rode it around the block a few times. Felt better on the bike than walking so towards the end of the day the wife and I rode down to the ocean. Short trip with one really nasty/steep hill. This morning my back actually feels better. Part of it might be that I no longer sit on a chair at work but instead am on an exercise ball all day, but I think the bike helped.

As for the bike I'm sold on DS. The only thing I need to sort out is the rear feels a little washy in a turn and I may need to tension up the rear wheel. Or that is just how the rear suspension feels.
