LOL, head416's car looks much cleaner than mine.
I may put up some more pics and details but not in this thread. To get $15k or $16k for an SC in today's market it has to be special, presented very well, and you'll have to find that perfect buyer. It is possible but it is a very limited market. it will take time and patience and effort. All those parts of selling a car that I hate. I like quick and easy no hassle so usually price vehicles low for that reason. Not smart business sense but there's a reason I'm not in the used car business. |

That car was a combination of color, year and being rust-free. Got top dollar for it and the new owner will be bringing it back to stock in all aspects and then put it up for $35K+, which he will get, most likely going to Europe.
yes, in CA, SC's are too common, too much to chose from for this car to sell for anything over $12K. Personally, I've never understood SCs, unless your plan was to put a 3.2 into one.

I don't know why, but I like "squeezing the nuts" on an SC more than on a 3.2. The 3.2 has more torque and is more refined, but the SC feels more free revving and a bit more raw. Maybe that's just the particular cars I drove, but that was the impression I was left with.

Jake, your perception is spot on. SCs are more rev-happy than Carreras, slightly lighter and a bit more raw in stock form, no question there. For me it's about CIS. Plenty of cars are tuned perfectly fine and work well, but friends who have had them always complain about the system, so that's colored my perception. I've driven a few and always wanted more power. I'd much rather take a 3.2 and put on 1 5/8" exchangers/headers, a sport muffler and Steve Wong chip to match the SC rev profile, get a lot more power and then put the car on a diet. And you get a little more selling security in a Carrera than an SC I think, but that's never been a consideration in purchasing.

Head, my last bit of advice. I would pull your ad now as it has been listed for 5 months and has gone stale. People are strange. They won't buy something they may like only because the ad has been out there a long time so they think something must be wrong with the item being sold. You see this all the time with houses. Delete the ad, wait until spring, clean the car well, take lots of pictures and list it for $14K and if you get offered $12K take it.

No more snow pictures. Pictures of the interior, even if it isn't great. Comment on paint - is it original, repainted, rock chips etc? $10k would sell apparently, so you are close. I'd take a decent offer over that and get it over with. The main issue with the Targa is that you have no track / ax guys looking at it. When I sold my SC (see ad below), it went within days to another guy who wanted a street / track car. G Last edited by aigel; 01-03-2013 at 08:01 AM.. |

leakdown and compression #s help a lot, especially with high mile and rebuilt motors.
