I heard a story once on how he cheated in college to win the NCAA championship. I believe it was only seen by other players at the time.

I defer to the last comment I made about Tiger a few years ago. He once again acknowledged the truth in that statement.

G50 perfectly framed this debate. It shouldn't even be debatable. This shouldn't be about Tiger, who is the greatest golfer of our time. A golfer unwittingly broke a rule in golf, did not assess himself the required penalty, and signed his now incorrect scorecard = DQ'D.
What I did learn this evening is that the rules committee was alerted to the situation before he finished the round, and determined there was no violation and thus did not bring it to Tiger's attention. Now there may have been some deference to Tiger, but if they had spoke to him, I expect he wouldn't have had any choice but to ding himself and this controversy wouldn't exist. But they didn't. Once he was made aware that he mistakenly broke a rule, and profited from it to boot, and signed an incorrect card, he should have withdrawn. The fact that he was provided a path to stay in the tournament by the Rules committee should have been irrelevant. Bobby Jones must have rolled over in his grave.

I can't say that I hate him, I just don't like him. I see no redeeming qualities. It's also extremely difficult to for me to fathom how anyone could like him given his on and off the course reputation and manners. To me, he's utterly repulsive. He's a richard head, plain and simple, just like his dad taught him to be.

^ Difficult to fathom how you might feel about someone you hate if this is how you feel about someone you just don't like.

I like to see well-played golf shots. It just happens that he's good at what he does. I don't watch him for any other reason. The golf tour isn't as nice as it appears on TV and there are a lot of players that do things I wouldn't, on and off the course. I tune in to see a golf game, not a soap opera.
As for this weekend, any serious golf enthusiast could name other instances where players did things that were questionable and rules officials didn't do what the pundits expected. Some of the sports biggest names were involved. Palmer's first win in 1958 was one such example. JR |

Sergio spitting in the cup after he picked up his ball, waiting for the other player to get in and then pick up his ball with Sergio's spit on it. a total no class golfer.

That sounds vaguely socialist. I don't think anyone ever said that about Nicklaus.

I don't see socialist in that at all. When Porsche dominated CanAm racing, people disliked that so much they quit going to the races. Gas prices figured into that too, but the races were pretty boring being basically a Porsche parade.
Remember all the folks who root for any underdog. Got to give them a bone now and then. |

Another notable sociopath was Neil Armstrong. No emotions. No empathy. No fear. He was chosen to land the Eagle on the moon for those very qualities. The other guy in the capsule (Aldrin?) was freaking-out as the Eagle ran out of fuel some 50 feet above the moon. Armstrong didn't lose it, didn't panic. he just viffed it sideways until he found a rock-free place to set it down. When he reported that the Eagle had landed the Houston controller said, "We're all breathing again." Armstrong was basically a non-violent psychopath. Emotionless. Emotions confuse them. Surgeons are the same way and that's why people complain about bad bedside manner. Bedside manner is emotion and you really don't want an emotional surgeon, do you? If Armstrong panicked they'd all be up there today, inside the crash-landed Eagle because Neil freaked at the last moment. Why are so many wealthy men a-holes? Because they are sharks. While others are being held back by conscience or other emotional restraints the shark swims in and steals everything for himself. (Yes, herself too.) That's why we tend to dislike them. Don't they care? No. They thrive on not having to care. It is their strength. It's how they win.
Not defending it, just explaining it as I see it. Stay clear of the hungry sharks.
