I like.
Depends on a few things a) did they do the necessary repairs when the clutch was replaced and b) what is that bra hiding? Looks like a decent deal.

Do we need to start an "Affordable 997 Thread" as well? This is the first I've seen sub-$30k

I've seen a few dipping below $30k, that's why people asking $30k+ for regular 996s are nuts. I'm hoping to drive my 996 for a few years then upgrade to a 997, I think they are the sweet spot for modern 911s. More attractive styling (my opinion), better performance, not too cushy, not too full of high tech garbage, still possible to DIY. Of course if the 996 GT3 suddenly drops in value, all bets are off.

The interesting paradox will be 996 C4S vs plain Jane 997. That's a tough one, and they are priced pretty similar.

As much as I like the updated 997 body I prefer the 996 interior. Of course things have a way of growing on me - case in point the 996 I am currently driving. I'm also that oddball who prefers the cleaner lines of the non-aero 996. I can deal with the nose and side skirts but would lose the big wing. In fact I am looking to pull the fuse on the motorized wing on my 996. IMO it totally ruins the lines of the car.

And personally, I'd leave the wing intact. It never stays up while at rest, and at least to my butt, I could really feel its effects on the highway.

I have zero issues with the 996 interior, I find it to be functional, comfortable, and high quality. Superior in every way to the archaic interior in the 993 and prior. The standard interior isn't fancy but wears like iron, the full leather is much more lux but also requires more care to keep nice. I prefer the styling of the 997 interior simply because it is more an evolution of 911 interior design, vs a near total departure like the 996.
David, I would leave the wing alone as it contributes to high speed stability. It's not like you see it when deployed at highway speeds anyway.

You show me a red or blue 997 with the Carrera S II wheels on it and I'll come sprinting with money.

The steering wheel, integrated dash (looks like any sedan), and the increased integration of technical gizmos, dials and switches. You know - all the stuff that normal people want
![]() I understand the function of the motorized wing but dislike the look and the fact that it's basically saying I (at some point) exceeded 75 mph. I have not tried the footwell switch to lower it manually - does that lower it and keep it lowered for the remainder of the drive even if speed is >75 mph? Not sure. I have not felt a difference with it up or down - but then I rarely exceed 80 on the highway anyway. Track would be different but I don't have plans to do that. Must be my seating position but I do see the top 1" or so of the wing through the bottom of the rear window. Definitely know when it's up. Last edited by JavaBrewer; 01-29-2014 at 10:07 AM.. |

![]() Funny story, my wife was following me when I had my Boxster. On the highway I got a panicked phone call that there was something wrong with my trunk. "It looks like it's open, or something is about to fall off." After a little diagnosis I realized that she was seeing the rear spoiler deploy.

I have no issue with people posting Boxsters and 997's here....
