I have tons of guitars because my guitar player is too cheap to buy anything other than a Les Paul.
He always tells me to bring over the ESP, or the Strat, etc...

Very cool. I bought one of the '51 reissues a few years back. Really nice bass. The flatpole single coil took some getting used to, but I had a lot of fun with that one. I also really dig the entire Fender Aerodyne series.

Love my Aerodyne. I would like an Aerodyne P bass. I replaced the fender single coil in the 51 RI with a Seymour Duncan quarter pounder and it's nice. You still can't play it in a club near a TV or it hums like crazy. Thanks for the comps.

I have seen em before but never played through one. As I recall it was squeaky clean solid state so the jazzers and country pickers used em. The overdrive tones were pretty awful even with pedals so it was rejected by rock guitarists. Late 70s-early 80s was an awkward time for guitar amps.

Hey guys, I recently traded for a ESP guitar and I began to do my normal setup routine on it and noticed that I could not lower the bridge enough to set the action the way I like it without the strings hitting the first frets up near the neck. Normally, I would do a truss rod adjustment to correct this, but after looking at the guitar, I noticed that the neck did not seem to be installed correctly.
I took the neck off to see if there were any shims installed and there were none present. I have attached photos of the neck installed in the guitar. If you look at them you will see there is a gap between the fingerboard and the body of the guitar. I don't think this is normal. You can also see how it offsets the neck of the guitar. I am thinking that I will need to take the neck off the guitar. Sand it down till it fits flush and then shorten the neck screws a bit before I reinstall them. What do you think? ![]()

Part of the deal also included a beat up acoustic needing repairs. I already have it puttied and glued / clamped together. Will post more pics as the repair comes along...

That ESP neck needs some serious shimming at the top of the joint.

Hey Rick, I was thinking of sanding the lower part of the neck down, but I could just as well do the credit card shim job on the upper part of the neck. I will have to loosen the neck to see if pulling the top of the joint up will allow the bottom to go down any. If it doesn't, I will probably have to sand it down...

Got a little work completed on the V, had to go ahead and use dowels on the bridge holes. Got the black JB weld off, re varnished it and the only thing that really looks off is that the wood putty I used didn't absorb the poly stain as well as I would have liked it to. Still looks better than the black JB rings it used to have. Going with a EVH circuit so needed to block some holes in the pickguard. Had some PF pics laying around so they got glued on.

Make sure the neck is straight and does not have a twist to it before start you setup. Sight down the neck with the strings in tune..I would just shim the neck and start from there. Sanding it is a pain and it has to be flat and even other wise the neck could lean to one side and make a setup difficult. Looks like you might have to lower the pickups.

Here are some pics of the V. I am going to try and shim it first here in a little bit, we'll see what it does...

I purchased a stock MIM Strat and ended up modifying just about everything I could. I realized I might as well just cut to the chase and make my own.
The first one was a maple over mahogany PRS shape with PRS humbuckers and a maple/ebony Warmoth neck (SRV shape, SS frets). ![]() ![]() The second is a swamp ash tele that is fully chambered (everything in blue is hollow) with Duncan Pearly Gates humbuckers that are wired to be splittable and a maple Warmoth neck with a Gulf Porsche paint scheme. Absolutely a sweet tone on this one. ![]() ![]() Last one is a resonator acoustic. Started as a Fender Sonoran and built all the structure and bracing underneath to hold the resonator cones. Channeled out the bridge to lay a piezio pickup in it and now have a very hot humbucker in the neck position. My first attempt at a fade burst finish too.

Okay, that has to be the coolest Tele I have ever seen. Hope you don't mind if I steal your design someday. Think about the only thing I would add is an ebony fretboard. Very nice!

Well, the two credit card shims worked great on the ESP, it is out of the way for now. Just need to do some light sanding and touch up to it tomorrow. For you guys that do repairs, what type of wood putty do you use for your repairs? The stuff I have does not take stain very well even though it says that it is stain-able. As you can see in my repairs of the Acoustic I was working on, it just didn't take the stain too well and I used an actual dark stain that I had. Still looks better than a big hole, but not by much. I will have to get another brand that will work better on natural finishes. All I need to do now is fill the area where the top had separated from the sides, sand and paint again.
