Great thread, its amazing what comes out of the woodwork when you ask car guys about old bikes.

Speeder, did you notice a big difference in temperature with the fairing lowers removed on your RS? My dream bike is a gold '78 RS and I've heard they can be quite toasty in summer.

It's a night/day difference. The fairing lowers cause the cylinders to cook your feet in the summer. They are going to be awesome for cold weather riding, though! :)

I have the R100RS book by Bill Stermer and it has all of these cool pictures of people riding RSes in the Alps with snow next to the road, etc. Mine has the accessory plug for a heated vest as well. Removing the lowers has become a popular thing to do in hot climates.

There was an absolutely beautiful gold '78 that sold on eBay about a month ago for $4500. I was watching it and seriously considering it, 60-something y.o. owner in Colorado, member of BMW club, multiple bike owner, fanatic, etc., etc...

Here it is. Zoom in on the photos and bite your knuckles: ;)

Love those old Triumphs too, Bill. Gotta dig for pics of my old '54 650, but here's my 500 dirt bike ..

Reviving this thread from the dead to show the KZ1000 now finished and my latest completed project, a 1975 Honda CB360. I took the KZ to the Sebring PCA club race and got a lot of comments with the best being "coolest pit bike ever". I think the Honda would make a great pit bike that you can use to run into town and tour the area. These are both for sale with more to come.

Some very nice bikes here! Denis' ravings about old BMWs has me wanting something from the 70s.

I just finished rebuilding the top end on my RD350. Fired right up after sitting in a corner of the garage for the past 13 years. Purrrrssss like a kitten. Already up on Ebay to make room for new bikes. These things aren't worth much as so many were made. Its gonna be a while before they're investment grade bikes. Cool little bike, though.

some I have had, some I raced, I sure wish I had taken pictures of all of them.

1908 Thor Twin, came from the Ekins collection, but I got it running and rode it.

That was me, best face forward. Some guy missed a shift right in front of me, I hit him and flipped.

I'm an air cleaner and a headlight away from starting this up for the first time.

Yes, maybe Cycle World, not sure whitch magazine it was in.

That picture was taken by Dan Mahoney, then the official photo guy at Ascot. I think he also owned the Trackmaster frame business.
