Single cup Cones make fantastic coffee, I don't see the need for a drip machine since it only takes a minute or so to make a cup. Things I've found (my opinions): French press leaves too much sediment in coffee. Makes nice soft cup if you drink it right away or filter out the sediment. Gold cone filters also let too much particulate through. Not all paper filters are the same, some let paper taste through. Water temp matters a lot! Depends on bean but let water cool 'a bit' from boil before pouring. We use a temp controlled electric kettle set around 195f. Otherwise we guess, if coffee tastes burned and acidic then lower the water temp. Grind matters a lot and grind should be close to espresso in fine-ness. Drip grind is more particular about grind than even espresso. That said good beans and grind fresh matters even more. There are folks that swear by preground Italian canned coffee and I think they're nuts. That stuff is nasty! Single cup of drip will be really fresh and good. I think because the grounds aren't wet for long enough to pull out bad flavors. Make a whole carafe with a larger cone and flavor gets muddled. |

I don't drink coffee, but I was curious. The process was pretty much what I expected based on the name.
This guy seems fairly serious. For instance, you need 415 grams of water for 29 grams of grounds, and you should spiral your water out from the center in a counter-clockwise direction. ![]() Now that I've watched the video (well, skipped through, really, I don't have 5 mins to watch this video. I'm wondering how the pour over is different from ![]() Hmm, filter, grounds, hot water flowing through the filter/grounds combo. My wife drinks coffee. She's been using a French Press for many, many years. She recently started making cold brew coffee. She says it's much smoother and less bitter, and better.

Salvatore is more like Duensenburg or RR as they are hand built and can be custom bodied machines. Salvatore takes your order and builds your machine with your name inside. Take a look at his Web site and see the stuff he has done.
Also Salvatore is located in Solvang, CA. Last edited by tabs; 01-24-2016 at 02:10 PM.. |
