Some thinly-veiled flirtations with a young barista 1/3 my age gets me going in the morning as much as the caffeine in my tall vanilla soy latte with no foam.

I doubt they have the E8. Check out the refurbished page. They do have some Saeco and Gaggia Super Automatics in the $300 region. If you want an E8 or E9 (silver) you can try both Amazon and Ebay. Used are around $500 and refurbished around $600

I had a different Saeco unit for years - made very good coffee every morning. Then I got an Aeropress and never used it again. My SO ebayed it for me and I got $300 or something crazy like that, great return on something that was a freebie to me. I've never made my own pourover but it doesn't seem like more work than an Aeropress, and I don't even think about that. Way better than drop coffee. OTOH if you are happy enough with drip it may be more than you want to bother with.

I hate you guys! I love my coffee, but haven't been able to drink any because it messes up my heart.

Go the whole hog Man and get one of these (Vibiemme Domobar Super). My coffees are better than 19 out of 20 cafes. Sure I'm not as cute
as the young barista chick, but it's nice to be able to just stagger into the kitchen and make a prefect latte.

Have the same rig. Had to stop putting beans in the top as the grinder was gumming up from steam getting into it
. Have you have that issue?

I have had my Salvatore espresso machine for 12 years and 3 months of nearly daily use and it has never missed a beat. Also am running the Mini Mazzer burr grinder.
When I was looking for a machine I read dozens of reviews about various machines on Whole Latte Love. Invariably the owners of higher end machines said that they wished they bought a high end machine to begin with instead of dicking around with the cheaper machines. So I popped about 1700 for the Salvatore and Mazzer. I would say I got my monies worth out of those two. So it was a good purchase. I also have two JURA automatic machines that I am going to sell an S8 and an F8. The F8 works properly but the S8 led says it has a malfunction. Both machines retailed for $1800 each when new. |

Another good reliable machine is a Rocket E61.
An analogy would be a Rocket E61, Vibiemme, Salvatore is a 1911, or a Porsche. Plastic electronic machines are a Glock or a Hyundai. Both a Glock and a Hyundai are only ok. |

The problem is that the Vashman is asking about pour over coffee and all you guys do is tell him to buy an espresso machine, french press or go cowboy style brew. I guess a cold glass of water does the job too, for some ...
So, here is my input for pour over coffee. NOTHING beats doing this by hand with a funnel shaped filter. Get a kettle that pours well and you are on your way. Second best to that is a TECHNIVORM Moccamaster drip coffee machine. This thing gets hot water on the powder about 80% as fast as you can do it by hand and has the convenience of a coffee maker. It is also made in the West ... English - Technivorm Last but not least, having ground coffee and using it in your drip setup is convenient, but you really should grind it fresh and nice and fine every day before use. At my house you will find a TECHNIVORM and now also a Jura Espresso Machine courtesy of my lovely wife. My love for coffee is second only to beer. G |

I drink pour over coffee at my local place. They are very exacting about it - weigh the ground, weigh the water, pre-wet the filter, etc. The coffee is good.
But I'm over being obsessed with coffee. I started out using a Melita or Chemex cone (that was pour-over coffee, before it became cool), then a French press, then a Bialetti stovetop espresso maker, with various other devices along the way. At the end of the day, I like good coffee and it can be made in a wide variety of styles. As long as there is a generous amount of good quality ground coffee used, I usually like the result.
