Is it just me or is the content on excellence light
I guess mainly it's because Ive been reading excellence since 1997 and have every issue from issue number 1 (known at the time as porsche magazine).
If you pick up a issue of excellence from 1995 to 2005 you'll find the magazine is simply well.. excellent both in content and writing. It's not easy to write a automotive article and capture both the mind and the heart but those years those articles excellence did just that. I'll always subscribe to excellence but I feel lately that it is not what it used to be. Which was the finest written single mark magazine in the world. It easily was up until 5 or so years ago. Maybe it will be again.

Definitely. Just thumbed through the latest C&D to appear in my mailbox...yawn, not much of interest. Old age, increased traffic density, onerous speeding laws, the hassles of caring for the damned things, all of it combined to my being bored with cars...pretty much.
To our avid Excellence issues collector. Read the June of '95 issue. You might spot a car I got bored with.

I think the reasons many people love Porsches have changed, and the magazine merely reflects that.

Every article appears to be more hyped up cheerleading than actual content. Yes, I know it's a club magazine, but is it necessary to cheer for every change? - PDK is the best ...ever! If you whine about not having a manual transmission it's just because you are an old man. But, if Porsche does, unexpectedly, build a car with a manual transmission (GT3) then it's only because it's made for professional drivers who are the only ones capable of mastering such a devilish contraption! - The Macan is the best Porsche ever made. It's a better sports car than any 911/Cayman/Boxster could ever be. If you don't agree, you just can't handle change and probably still have a flip phone and watch cable tv. - Hybrids and electric cars are the only viable option for the future! Why would you want a fossil fuel powered car? The sound of an electric motor is exotic! If you don't agree you hate the planet and probably kill whales in your spare time. -Owners of those old air cooled cars are quaint anachronisms whom we must tolerate. While their inefficient toxic spewing death machines are on the road, we must act as if we like them since we need their money to pay for our club. However, we secretly think those old cars should have been turned in with the cash for clunkers program. |

As mentioned, I just think they just need to write about all the different owner experiences. Have they ever done an article on a 2010 Cayman hotrod, outlaw type car? If they did, I missed it. They must exist and I would love to read about it.
How about that guy/lady that bought the old Porsche and how they took it from ruins to drivable? Maybe it why shows like wheeler Dealer do so well. For the most part, there is nothing fancy going on. It's just a guy fixing cars. Believe it or not, he uses Bondo at times. Crazy stuff! Also, I find the articles about the different versions of the new 911's to be boring as well. The base, the S, the R, the whatever. Snore fest. While I am on a roll, they seem to throw the entry level term around a lot as well. That cannot grasp that everyone does not want a 911. I wrote them about that and they actually posted my gripe. Yes, I am now published. I don't think I am alone here, I've seen others complain. In closing, they do not need me. Fortunately, I do not need them. If they do not change by the time my subscription runs out, I will be sending my money to the UK instead of Canada. |

I don't disagree with you guys but keeping things in perspective for a moment, Mag subs are peanuts in this country. Excellence is $28 a year... If they printed only pretty pictures and an occasional decent article, it'd still be worth $28 a year ($2.3 per month)
The UK pubs are way more expensive, even via Ipad (minimum $3.99, more frequently 4.99 per). In paper, $10+ an issue in stores... Panorama works out to $42 a year, and it 's no longer as good either since Pete left... I'd say give Excellence a chance to find its feet again... Well it's not just about cost anyway, I'm happy to pay $250 for 4x 000 magazines ;-) |

I picked up a subscription to R&T last year, and it talks about cars in the ways I want to hear about them. It really dropped off a lot over the years, but somehow it sprung back into a good read about enthusiast cars. I dropped Eggsalence a while back
