Last time I tasted anything stronger than lite beer was when jim bob has some really 'spensive ta-kill-ya at the ventura Porsche show and talked me into taking a sip.

He said the bottle were a hundred dollars worth.
I said it didn't taste like it.
He said that's why it's 'spensive.

Dogfish is near me. They used to have a beer called 'lawnmower beer'. Light pilsner type. Not sure if they still do. Not a fan of the hoppy stuff myself.

I actually rate the Dark Hallow slightly above the DogFish Head WWS. The primary reason is the DH has a slightly lower ABV which makes is a smoother beer if you want to enjoy one now. If you drink an older WWS, then I give it the edge over the DH. I recently had a 10 year old WWS (yes... 10 years old) that was FANTASTIC.

The funny thing about that beer is it's very temperature sensitive. I bought 4 750ml bottles while in VA visiting my brother. We let one get a bit cold and some of the complexity was lost. The next one we hit the right temp on and it was as good as what we had on tap at the Capital Ale House in Fredericksburg.
The grains for that beer wouldn't be hard to hit as most stouts have the same basic grains. The hop schedule and the yeast variety are where it's really at. You can play with fermentation temps as well as the length of time in primary and secondary fermentation to affect the flavor profile as well. That's where the fun comes in home brewing.

I was able to get my hands on a few, I was very lucky. One I drank right off and it was OK.

The others were aged over a 3 - 4 year period and each one was better than the last.

I would have laughed at you 5 years ago if you told me you could age a stout.

I have 8 Dogfishhead 120 Minute IPA's being stored now.

The WWS has a bit of an alcohol burn if you drink them fresh. They mellow over time and become a much more balanced beer. Probably why I like the Dark Hallow so much, it has all the things I like about the WWS without the waiting. I'm into instant gratification.

The last time I tried a Guiness stout, I had bought a 6 pack thinking it would be a wonderful beer. After the first swig, I actually spit it out, and gave the other 5 to a freind of mine. I'm not a beer snob who needs the latest IPA offering, Craft, or Wheat Summer Ale. For the little amount I drink, just give me a tall Bud Light in a frosted glass, bought cheap, can drink more than one, and no headache in the morning.

there simply is too many to name, with too many taste to satisfy to call a clear cut winner. i dont even try anymore, and i dont listen to anyone that tells me this is "the one" this may me "the one" for them..i agree. but honestly, i bet dollars to donuts even that will change.
