Some more of our Garden. The original owners who built the house and garden must have spent a fortune on the landscape works - massive rocks placed as edges, soil in behind to build up the beds etc.
Thank goodness we have a bore fed dam to water it - the summer down here has been rather harsh this year with lots of days way up past 105 degrees. ![]() These are Kangaroo Paw - an Australian native plant which come in a wide variety of colours. Easy to propagate, we probably have about 900-1000 of them in a mass planting as well as others scattered throughout the garden. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() And another Corner - easy care mowing areas with the Man Cave in the background and the early stages of a 911 build on the drive. ![]() Tim

Well for sure whoever does Tim's pruning is a maestro with the shears.
Great landscape Tim. Beautifully designed and maintained. CrowBob's and many others are super nice too. But this is my first look at that beauty down under. Cheers Richard |

I do every bit of it by myself.
It's a challenge. Try growing something in the environment pictured below (from 5 minutes ago) that is also infested with deer, rabbits, squirrels, moles, voles, mice, turkeys, skunks, possums, porcupines, beetles, moths and fungi.

Easter egg hunt with the grand kids was a lot of fun. Christmas lunch for 40 under the trees near that lower flat grassed area was a very pleasant way to spend a sunny Summer day with family and friends.
As for help in the garden we have a young gardener who comes once a month for a day and does mainly the large scale weed and trim stuff. We are both pretty good with the hedging shears but he has all the gear for large scale stuff like ladders, long reach poles etc. The couple who originally built the garden designed it to be relatively low maintenance. We use a lot of mulch for moisture and weed control in the garden beds and all the lawns have a flowing edge which means the zero turn mower can get to all the lawn without needing much hand mower or whipper time.

You guys really have some nicely landscaped places.
I do my own yards as far as mowing/edging goes, wife generally keeps the flower beds going, but, I did spend 3 hrs out there today with her. We have a gopher which is causing some concern now. Has been for most of a year now. Thought I had gotten rid of it once before but I think others found the tunnels and have moved in. It's a never ending battle along with the snails, grasshoppers, slugs and bugs. ![]() Hey Baz, when's a good time to dig up an Amaryllis bulb? My wife wants to give one to our daughter-in-law. We have a few extra. Ours are just now blooming. And do you know if you can just cut off the stem of the chandelier plant once the flowers fall off it? We've got some that seem to have run their course for the season but I can't find anything on pruning them.

I'm looking forward to sharing all of these beautiful pictures of beautiful places with the GF tomorrow.
I agree that gardening is the ultimate expression of optimism. |

Regarding your Amaryliis, you could dig them up anytime you want to transplant but I would wait at least until they are done blooming so you can enjoy the bloom(s) first. And the Chandelier Palnt you speak of - if it is this one - Kalanchoe delagoensis, then absolutely remove the flower stalk after blooming is finished. Kalanchoe's in general are survivors and very hard to kill.

Thanks Baz. Yup, that'd be the Chandelier we have. Appreciate the info. Thanks.

About 4 or so years ago I bought some colored rubber mulch, but haven't used it yet. I only bought a couple bags of 2 different colors...blue and green.
My thought was these would be cool to use in some planters or pots or a small bed in a patio or entry location. Maybe other things....but not as a full blown substitute for an entire property's mulch collective. My whole property is getting a makeover right now so we'll see - maybe I'll get it in there somewhere..... ![]() Here's what the stuff looks like:
