Don't know much about the topic at hand but a few years ago I did see this garden in Natchez, Mississippi that reminded me of a Fuchs.

Very talented team. Some beautiful projects and very impressive budgets I reckon. I am just as impressed with some of the photos in this thread...
The world is kind of small.... Back a few years ago, during the height of the recession, I attended a college alumni function at Google. I attended Dartmouth College. I studied engineering and I was also an athlete for all four years. I turned around in the snack line, and there I encountered a former teammate, a couple of years younger than I. I had not seen him since he graduated in '84. We got caught up very quickly. Before he told me exactly what he did, he indicated that his business was recession-proof. Then I learned that he was the CEO of a company that provided super high end home audio/automation services, and the Chairman of the Board of CEDIA. A few minutes more of conversation revealed that quite a few of his clients and those of the firm that employs my wife had a lot of overlap. One of the long term projects on which both companies worked for years was this one: https://blogs.wsj.com/developments/2011/03/30/russian-investor-buys-silicon-valley-mansion-for-100-million/ Both before and after the transaction. The world is small...

Our newly landscaped backyard has three of these bushes. Over the winter the leaves went from red to brown/dried.
Not knowing much about bushes, I assumed they were dormant and would turn red again in the spring. So far, everything else is blooming, these are still dried husks. If I peek inside, I can see some green stuff. Should I cut these somehow? Where? Clearly I hate gardening... Thanks, Don ![]()

Edit: Upon further inspection.....those aren't Purple Fountain Grasses, are they Don? If so, you need to cut them down to about 4-6 inches from the ground. They are a true perennial. Here's an Internet pic of a variety of Purple Fountain Grass called 'Fireworks'......did it look kinda like this?

Hi Baz,
Thanks for chiming in. I didn’t see them called out on the blueprint- here is a glimpse of them: ![]() Your photo is close. I will give them a hack tomorrow.

First of all.....puppies!!! Great pic! ![]() ![]() ![]() From your pic, I think I was right. When you said "red" I thought it could be the fireworks variety but looks like you have the garden variety (pun intended) Purple Fountain Grass. Yes....cut those suckers back! Here's what they are supposed to look like......

Picture of some really smelly (fragrant?) flowers my wife received for her birthday the other day.
They were clogging up her head so she put them in the garage overnite. Went out there and they immediately clogged up mine too. And no, they weren't from me, but that is another story too long for the telling here.

We redid our retaining wall this winter. During the process, we had 15 extra truck loads of dirt brought in, dumped, distributed, compacted and leveled. Last week we started a stone patio and fire pit on the level areas. It is coming along well. We found a really great stone mason to do the work. He has a crew of 2 helpers, one being a lady. Fun to watch them all work together and debate stone selection and placement. I set the sprinkler up this morning to water the supposedly deer-resistant wildflowers I planted earlier this spring.

Our place is starting to perk up with the warmer weather. I'm about 3 years into the fescue lawn rehab and I've read that it takes about 5 years to get a well established fescue lawn from seed. I'm in a transition zone that isn't ideal for fescue but turf like bermuda and zoysia stays dormant too long for me.

Very, very nice, willtel.
I'd try for something like yours. That's got to be so very satisfying. Extremely well done! |

Yes indeed Willtel, very nice mix of colors around the pool. I see you use a mix of pine straw and wood chops for mulch. Does that compost well over time?
Beautiful yard! I like the privacy you get from the surrounding trees. Cheers Richard |

I'm very impressed with a lot of what I see here.....VERY impressed!
![]() I want to go back and respond to some of your posts individually, when time allows. At my property, I have a corner lot with 2 driveways. One driveway connects both roads in a semi-circle....and the other is a straight shot leading to my garage. I took this pic tonight while standing in my garage driveway looking east with the other driveway in the foreground where it comes out on my side street. The beach is 2 blocks straight ahead. ![]() My property is currently in the middle of a re-build so only parts of it are worthy of sharing at the moment.

I can't relate, Baz. The environment is all wrong.
Wisteria. A member of the pea family. Highly toxic seeds. Anyway, the plant is touch 'n go up here. It blooms before leafing out so the buds get frozen. No bloom. Unless... You prune appropriately:
