Skcubrats? Nope. Maybe when nothing else is available.
Been roasting my own using a giant inherited roaster. Double plus: green beans keep for a long time and are cheaps.

A friend wanted to meet there. The coffee was a good three out of ten (Wellington is a hard town to impress coffee wise) and the sandwiches were OK, but it was expensive! So I'm in on the boycott.

I think I've had $tarBux once in my life. Nothing like freshly roasted, ground beans through a French Press imo...
That said, Peet's Major Dickason's Blend (dark roast) as fresh as possible, is my pick... edited...anybody who don't drink their coffee black is a racist! Last edited by KFC911; 04-17-2018 at 03:30 AM.. |

Guiness is brewed and bottled here. It tastes so much better over there, Starsucks - over priced for sure!

What Starbucks did was improve the quality of coffee everywhere else, From McDs and other fast food joints to small and big restaurants, just about everyone serves better tasting coffee.
I gave up drinking coffee over a year ago (I'm a tea drinker), their Sumatra is awesome. I'm a bold, strong coffee guy and that does it. No cream or sugar - just coffee. For tea, I hate the crap in a bag - I like the loose leaf stuff found in Asian and ethnic stores.

Disclosure: I bring my own beans and hand grinder when I travel.
Long ago starbucks realized that at their scale they couldn't use premium beans, I remember the changeover and it was dramatic. I also find their espresso is terrible, but its always been burned to stand out in milk drinks. If you want something drinkable at starbucks order 'pourover': You'll totally jam up their operation while one person spends 4 minutes making you a cup of drip, and it will be fresh and authentic even if their bean int your favorite. I think mcdonalds new coffee takes like an emulation of great coffee... I'm sure it is bark and twigs but to me it tastes like almost a great cup of ethiopian. Is doesn't give me the magic feeling I get from great coffee but kinda tastes like it if you squint What Starbucks is good for: Healthy ready made food early in the morning away from cities, is expensive but often the only option if you've no time to cook. Many endurance races I am prefueled with $10 of their oatmeal. |

It only took one time. We make fantastic coffee at home/office with a Super-Automatic and fresh 100% Colombian beans from Eight-o-clock.

I've never tasted starbux so don't really know if it's good or bad. The wife likes it.
I drink this every morning, 39 cents per cup: Did I mention I'm a cheap bastage?

Sbucks *coffee* actually isn't really overpriced, considering you are getting 3 or 4 times the caffeine for $179 than you would get at a gas station for $1.29. They also always have a milder blend which is pretty close to super strong regular coffee, so it's drinkable.
But, 95% of the SUVs sitting in the drive up line for 15 minutes are not getting Sbucks coffee, they are getting some sugary frothy thing with mint syrup and whipped cream and 4 types of sugar inside, and THOSE things are overpriced. Starbucks got me through grad school, so it's got that going for it.

I like strong coffee and that isn't the issue with Starbucks, it is how they roast the beans. I think they roast them until they fall apart so they don't have to grind them.

Whenever possible we try find a mom&pop coffee shop, found one in Berkeley... line coming out the door... we got our coffee and jumped back in the car and started sipping our coffee on the way to the job. Half way to the job I started sweating and shaking, I turned to my partner and ask "are you feeling this?", "yep", we are pretty hard core coffee guys but had to pour the rest out. Pretty sure they were 'fortifying' the coffee somehow. Wife does likes the coffee flavored sugar water starbucks serves, I take my coffee black, maybe a shot of whole milk if I'm feeling extravagant.

I usually order a small, I usually pay about 2 bucks for it. I don't get the dark roast, tastes fine to me, better than what 7-11 offers.
Wanna get ripped off? Go to Five Guys for a burger.
