Very nice Al!
Curious to and would love to learn about the benefits of going from factory EFI to the new ITB EFI setup you’re installing.
Was the engine rebuilt prior to this swap commencing?
Was there a problem the owner is/was working to resolve with the ITB EFI install?
Keep building ‘em! Just wish you were closer to Houston!

Also curious does gas mileage suffer compared to the DME injection?

Benefits of Independent Throttle body fuel injection/aftermarket ECU control
Increased HP & TQ
Improved Throttle Response
Complete control of the tuning for injection and ignition
The stock system is big, ugly and complicated...ITBs are beautiful, relatively simple...... and retro-cool
I am not sure when/if the engine was rebuilt, but if i'm doing the install, i always drive the car , warm it up and do a leak-down test to evaluate its current state......Scott's car runs great and the leak-down results were 3% or lees across the board....a healthy motor.

I can't answer for Scott.....but his 911 w/3.2 is a beautiful example and runs great....However, like you, he has been following some of the builds and was interested in moving to ITBs for the benefits listed above.......

regards,
al

I've never really checked gas mileage......just not what these cars are all about for me....but with the aftermarket ECUs, you have the ability to really fine tune the AFRs throughout the load range....so if gas mileage was an important facet of the build, you could certainly tune in that direction.

al

Thanks Al!! I have a stock Euro 3.2 with Steve Wong chip. I'm looking forward to more pictures and info on this build. Can you post pictures and info on the ignition? Your website mentions MSD. Curious what that looks like on a 3.2

A brief side trip

A brief side trip....my friend Carlos.......sent me this video of his last run with the 3.0RS. He is moving on to the next big thing and now this engine.....is moving on to it's new owner. I built this engine for Carlos, a while back, and it was converted to COPs and tuned by Sports Purpose Garage (Erik Lind) ......enjoy

Cams

Do you have to change cams to get performance from ITBs? When I rip the engine out of my 3.2 - was considering getting ITBs, mainly because they sound nasty and because I drove a stripped out mid 90s Tercel (!!!) with home made ITBs and the throttle response was incredible.

I've have found that changing out the stock intake and exhaust of the 3.2 and replacing them with EFI/ITBs, headers and sport muffler makes an amazing change to the response/performance of the stock 3.2.......of course you can always improve from there with hotter cams/pistons etc.....but that change alone is considerable.......

al

Well....admittedly, that is what I labeled it....but maybe it qualifies.

3.0RS build:

• JE, 9.5:1 pistons
• Webcam 149/149 cams (Early S cam grind)
• TWM/Borla Independent Throttle Bodies
• SSIs
• Sport Muffler

Stock 911SC 3.0 was rated at 180HP/5500 at the flywheel, 204HP/5900 flywheel for later ROW

This "3.0RS" engine dyno'd at 206.57 at the wheels...so, using the typical 15% drivetrain loss calc...that 243 at the flywheel (35% increase over 180HP, 19% over 204HP)

To compare:
The 1973 911S was rated at 190HP/6500 flywheel
The 1973 RS was rated at 210HP/6500 flywheel (10% over 190)

Mike,
Greetings.......I use tall Hex standoffs off of the front breather cover mounting holes and then I make a simple Stainless sheet metal mounting bracket that mounts to the standoffs and the bulkhead......this provides a sturdy platform for the vacuum block and IAC valve.....

That is drop dead sexy! If I wasn't running a turbo this is the route I'd have gone.
