I have an '89 Carrera and I find the drivers window much slower than the passenger side. .

I have completely disassembled the window gear, all new felts and seals, tried my hardest to make the track align and still slow....

So I am also looking for some sort of magic bullet to solve this

Changed one motor out and that one has consistently been a slow window. Figured it was a different motor that fit. Looked identical to the one I took out.

Check and make sure your spring pivot isn’t broken.

Was going to suggest the same. My driver's window goes up and down fine but the passenger only creeps along. Ended up finding the spring pivot rolling around in the bottom of the door panel.

I will check, but I disassembled the whole door insides and redid everything I could find. Always a chance I did it wrong....maybe not enough tension as I did take that spring out and refit it.

Thanks guys!

In my case, it was a combination of gummed up scissor lift regulator and corroded motor bushing.
I disassembled, cleaned and lubed the motor bushing with limited success.
But eventually went with the lower priced Dansk replacement motor.

This was my issue.

Found the original "pivot" in the bottom of my door. Followed the process from a thread using a couple nuts and just long enough bolt. To my surprise fixed the issue. Car is an 86' with 200,000 miles on it and figured it had to be the motor or regulator. There should be quite a bit of tension on that spring all things considered.

Couple old, but great, threads on the fix with some searching...

Keep us updated what you find.

Found this - just in case...seems like people see the spring resting on what's in the photo and don't realize the original piece is missing (the hole in the photo).

I have just refitted my driver's side door frame after a complete refurb.

I now know why my window was slow over part of its travel.

The bolts that secure the frame corrode and effectively grow into the window channel, resulting in high spots that the window encounters on its travel.

I need to do a little more feeling before I fully tighten the frame bolts but now my window is beautifully smooth and consistent when lowering or raising.

Engineer in Japan posted a series of 5 X 10 min YouTube episodes taking you from beginning to end on the power window slow up/down issue. No dialogue, just video, and captions in English/Japanese...

Chapter #143 --- for his 81 SC Coupe
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbTkSx1L_Fk

The, search his channel for Chapters 144 ~ 147. Very entertaining, high production value.

For my 83 SC coupe, the window travel is slow both up/down, especially on driver side. I've bookmarked these videos for future project.

Here is what was my issue. Bolts had corroded and grown with the corrosion to cause high points in the felt channel seal, slowing the window down.

Thanks everyone for your posts. I did find the spring pivot on the bottom of my door. Used a carriage bolt to replace it with a couple of nuts and washer. Re-tensioned the spring as originally positioned and now the window moves up and down much faster. Also cleaned and re-lube all the regulator joints, wheels and motor gears. Finally replaced the Felt on my window channel and lube it with silicone spray as suggested.Tried realigning the window glass channels but w/o improvement.
the driver window still operates quicker. Possibly the new felt is tighter? Anyway I'm putting the door card etc..back together for now.

Slow power window

Here's what worked for me. A carriage bolt, washer and two nuts.
Then reprung the spring.

Both my power windows in my 82SC became slower and slower. Then I couldn't operate the passenger's side window from its switch in the driver's door.

I tried the obvious first line of attack: I took both switches out of the driver's door and blasted them with contact cleaner while operating the rocker action of the switch. Re-installed the switches and my windows work fine and fast now.

Sometimes you get lucky with the easy fix.

Just an old can of aerosol spray electrical contact cleaner I had on hand and I just sprayed it into the front of the switch on either side of the rocker as I worked the rocker of the switch a few times shook it a few times what's left will evaporate in seconds. Clean the spade terminals with a piece of scotch bright check the spade connectors of the switch are a tight fit into the back of the switch put it back in the door worked like a champ. No need to take the switch apart, and even if you did it might be difficult to reassemble.

fwiw, the video of the guy in Japan helped me figure out my own window issue - the clock spring was binding in my case.
I shot some WD40 in there (there is an access hole in the door funny enough) and then ran the window up and down a bunch of times. It’s faster now but still making some odd noises. I’ll remove it for some real TLC after the auto-x season is done. It probably needs a good soak in vinegar (or maybe just a cleaning?) and then some kind of oil to protect it and ensure it can move freely.

any recc on what to coat it with to protect it?

Love this video series btw. Good info, good pace, and thankfully - subtitles.

Great timing. My passenger window is very slow, but I don’t recall seeing any of these spring in the bottom of the door when I worked on it last. I have to take another look.
