Cool! Hopefully they make it out to the west coast by the end of the week. Maybe I'll even be able to install it while I'm on vacation next week.

Hey everybody...

I just entered these into the system, so you should be able to order them by clicking this link.

The new item should be visible in our catalog over the weekend, so I'll update the link afterwards. Thanks!

David (and others):

I replaced my 18 month old stock bushings with Charlie's brass shift coupler bushings. About 6 months before installing these, I also installed a Rennshift gate shifter. After installing Charlie's bushings (actually he did it while I watched ), I felt a noticable improvement in the crispness of my shifter / linkage. This made me feel a lot more comfortable selecting gears while on the track. I would highly recommend these bushings for anyone contemplating a coupler bushing replacement.

Wow! what a difference!
I got my bushings from Charlie a while ago, but just got a chance to install them along with the shift ball cup and shaft bushing. Even though I have a factory short shift kit, these made a huge difference.

One note on the installation. I've herd a few people mention the risk of dammaging the outer coupler housing while driving out the shaft. I took heed to the caution with FIRE! I torched the old plastic bushings to the point where they oooosed out. I slipped a deep socket (Like 14mm maybe?) over the shaft and with 2 wacks of the hammer the shaft losened to the point that it was very easy to tap out.

Not that it was needed, but with this method there is no risk or worry of dammaging the outer coupler. The plastic goop ended up like hot melt glue and took a few minutes to scrape off. NBD.

I can't think of a better upgrade to the shifter!
Thanks Charlie!
I hope Pelican can get the word out about this great new product!

What a clever idea! As one who broke his coupler trying to tap the pin out, I appreciate your ingenuity!

The 'Large Vise + Big/Little Socket Method' works great with out potentially damaging your lungs!

Big socket is large enough for the pin to go into, and little socket is smaller than the OD of the pin ... the 'sandwitch' of the little socket + coupler + big socket necessitates a 'BIG' vise with 5" - 6" opening between the jaws. Once you get the 'sandwitch' lined up properly ... the pin comes out in a couple of minutes without damage to the coupler body.

Yea, but you'll miss out playing with fire and that awsome smell!

Actually it didn't really burn that much it more like melted.
Nothing like the burning rubber on the spring plates!

Now that it has been a few years, what does everybody think of these brass bushings? Do they wear well? Are they okay for the transmission or do they cause problems? Do you prefer them to the 99-1758-424-M230 plastic bushings?

Also, does anybody know when they will be available from our host again?

Still like new! Best money spent on the car. Actually they outlasted the Cab and are in the Targa now.

You should call the host about supply. Charlie is back at school VA Tech. and I haven't seen him in a while. If you post a wanna buy on the dorki board, there are possibly some around that never got installed.

It looks like "Temporarily unavailable" = NLA, specifically, Pelican says:

"The machinist that made these for us had retired, so they are no longer available."

Bummer!

Has anyone tried the $195 shift couplers made by Wevo and Stomski and listed on Pelican?

Thinking of buying one in the spring for my 84 911 Targa....

I have had the Wevo in my 1973 911 for 8 months or so and I love it. We redid the transmission last year including the Wevo internal shift gate the trans was so precise I had to install a factory short shift kit to take the slop out of that end of things.

I then did the Wevo coupler. The stock coupler had a lot of slop in it, the plastic bushings were somewhat worn out. The before and after with the Wevo coupling was really noticeable.

I highly recommend the Wevo coupling. Expensive, but worth it. It is very flexible and has 0 play in it.

I put a stomski coupler in my dad's '86 Carrera, It took 15 minutes to install and made a HUGE difference in how the car shifts. Much smoother and infinitely more precise.

I have the WEVO coupler on mine and it takes out a lot of slop by itself. The install of the coupler takes about 15 - 20 minutes assuming you don't have fixed back seats (in which case you need to remove the passenger seat).

You'll only need 3 tools - a philips head screw driver, a 13mm wrench and a hex key.
