I can't recall with 100% certainty the answer to your question. I have seen such a switch on what is purported to be an earlier car than yours, although I'm taking someone else's word that it was original. It may have been optional before it was standard equipment. I'll do a little research and get back to you.

Java. I traced the wiring for the Emergency lights and the wiring and has been spliced into the turn signal circuit to with piggyback electrical connectors.. so I believe that this car did not have flashers originally,,It is a euro, and the wiring for the emergency circuit is joined by piggyback and not by soldering or splicing on an extension to accommodate the additional length that would have been needed for the new position of the switch.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with the two non functioning switches in this dash location,, Ibeleieve that I will relocate the emergency flashers and get the fog lamps,, then I will be only left with the Webasto switch that will have no function..

Again.. Thanks for all your help..

Cordts,

I took a look at a US spec '67 911 coupe today. It was a base coupe, not an S. It had the flasher switch in the center position. Interestingly, it was also missing the chrome bezel.

I didn't realize that your car was not a US car. I guess I should have asked. That would explain the unusual addition of the hazard light switch. I'll bet it was added when the car was imported.

Porsche offered a kit, once upon a time, to add emergency flashers to a car that wasn't originally equipped with them. The part number for the kit was 901.612.901.00. Just for grins, I entered the part number into the Pelican catalog and it came up with a current price of $67.00. I wonder if it is still available? There's a set of instructions and a wiring diagram in Volume II of the factory manual, in section TRA24.

They also have a description of the subsequent installation of a heated rear window, in section TRA23.

If you need copies of these, I could send them to you.

On cars that didn't have all of the switches, the unused holes were covered with a small cap. You might pull the heater switch and see if the hole looks in good enough shape to plug. The part number for this cap MAY be 90155288120. I can't guarantee it's the correct one, but Pelican lists it for a dollar, if you want to take the risk. You could always source another plug of the correct size, if that one didn't work. There are a zillion plastic and rubber plugs out there.

Java,, Again,, My Thanks.. Yes,, I have three switches that dont do a darn thing.. so Im not sure what I will do,, guess its time for fog lights,a new alternator, engine upgrade, a new house and maybe a new wife..LOL

Yes, I agree with the addition of the unit at import.. I also believe that it was added as a safety feature,, it is a Hella unit,,s o it would make sense..

I took out all the wiring that was no longer needed and finally have the cleaner front bonnet area that I was looking for.. I plan to drive and get familiar with this car and then maybe next year.. take it completly apart and redo the body,, I figure, by then, I will know this car like the back of my hand and be as familiar with this car as I wam with the triumphs, Healeys and MG's of this world..

I was really surprised to find no terminals for wiring on the rear window,, too funny..

Hey,, on the passenger side flapper box, up in the body, only noticeable when the box is out..,, there is a tube that appears to go from just inside that hole the box attaches to.. to appear in the engine box, just in front of the breather tube that comes out of the oil tank.. any clue why that is there?? That would be a great place for a air leak to enhance the poor heating capability of these cars.. any thoughts? Im considering plugging it,, to help the heating system

The only thing that comes to mind relates to the ducts for defogging the rear glass. I've never really looked at how these were plumbed. I'll try and take a look at one tomorrow. For now, I'd say plugging it would be a good idea.
