Research on swaping a 3.3T into my SC has taken me many places I have never been before. This is another one.
For all you boost junkies out there: What types of boost control do you use? Likes, dislikes, and how do they work? It looks like I have a couple of options. One is to use the stock 930 dual fuel pumps and 1 bar cut out. Another is to go with one large single pump and a boost controller. Both setups would be similar in price, and both have good and bad points. Opinions? |

Been there, done that - only did it with a 600+ HP Turbo Buick. I tried the electronic controllers, but I think they are more hype than anything. I simply stuck with the basics - a DeltaGate (Turbonetics) wastegates, a manual boost controller, VDO boost gauge, pop off valve and a 7th injector.
I was running 29 PSI all day with no creep and no surges. Remember that turbo motors are combination driven. No one part is going to save your motor from a missed shift or over boost. I like the manual control for two major reasons - the boost limit stays set no matter what and should the car develope an electrcial problem, it wont affect the boost. I've seen the HKS boost controller falure results and they arent pretty... |

I use the HKS control unit on our 1987 Turbo and have had no problems with it at all. I installed it in a couple of hours and it is all hidden behind the relay cover in the engine compt so the smog check folks can't see it. I have normal set to 1 bar and an over boost set to 1.25 bar for 8 seconds and I have only had to use that once and it sure makes a difference. Good luck.
