Just watched the first half of "Bad Boys" w/ Will Smith where he drives a 993 TT (I think). The first scene shows him and his partner racing through Miami and they are discussing a $105k car that has no cupholders - pretty funny!

This thread will not die.

There were 3 cars used for the long shots in the US. The 68 912 rust bucket and the 68 911t were the ones that made it in the movie most. My 912 was only used for one am session and had little screen time. (Good thing, it looks very little like Gavin's car)

As I reread this thread I was amused by the post from karosserie. His 2 year restoration consisted of taking the car apart and having it painted then letting it sit disassembled in the driveway with a blue tarp over it until I (in hind sight, stupidly) offered to buy it and helped put it back together. After buying it I disassembled the entire car system by system and rebuilt it as a hobby project. Water got in as the car sat and ate into the rear pan and T tube area and the first motor lasted 6 months before the #4 cyl failed due to the fact that both of the wrist pin clips were on the SAME side of the piston. I also found that the top end was only worked on not rebuilt and the bottom end was untouched and the motor was not fully rebuilt as was represented. Tim B and I built the second motor and I have rebuilt it each year or so after that after learning the tricks of the trade from Tim. (It has a hard life at the track running WOT 99% of the time)

The good thing that came out of it is that I found that working on P cars is enjoyable and now with a full on shop with a lift in the back yard do so for fun and $.

So, if they were really looking for a 912, why did they dub in 911 engine sounds? I found that amusing to see the 912 badge and hear the classic flat 6 wheeze.

Don't think they were actually seeking a 12, it's just it was the nicest car that turned up Guess the sound guys had lots of 911 sfx but not 12's.

Does anyone remember "Freedom" from 1982.

It was an Australian film featuring an 930 Turbo, I'm sure it was black. I remember watching it instead of doing homework!

The film was actually terrible but the car was awesome - that's what made me want a 911.

I cant find a copy anywhere but would love to see it again.

"An angry young Australian (Jon Blake) steals a Porsche Turbo and hits the road with a runaway girl (Jad Capelja)." Road trip movie featuring the car - heavily.

I saw "Freedom" and I thought it was pretty surreal. If you want a copy check this link and look at the last reply:

Not exactly but fun (and useless) trivia anyway..

Today, I was searching something about Porsche engine type numbers and noticed one line in the list:

"930/01 1977 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine for Airship Industries Skyship 500"

I did some more wiki research and found out that this Skyship 500 airship model really was powered by two modified 930/10 Porsche engines AND it is the same ship that was used in the James Bond 007 A View to a Kill movie. How cool is that?

I think they may be quite rare today, only 6 were manufactured.. Maybe I'll need to get another 911 SC and then build my own airship..

Just watching the trailer for the movie "The Martian", Matt Damon's new movie and this looks like the rear of a red air cooled 911 cab right in the middle driving into NASA. No 3rd brake light so probably an 86.

The Best Of Me briefly shows a blue 911 behind the pretty girl. There are also a couple shots with a 356 in the background. Minimal Porsche content.

FWIW, the US third brake light requirement started with MY 1986 cars -- my '86 targa had a 3rd brake light from the factory while my '85 vw gti did not . . . see, http://articles.latimes.com/1985-09-03/business/fi-24385_1_air-bags

Wheelman

Just watched Wheelman on netflix, and it's a pretty intense thriller that I recommend...

But there's some serious Porsche content here. A brown 911 makes a small appearance in the corner of a garage, right at the beginning.
But at the end there's a 15 min action scene where a SUV goes after an SC, driven by the main character. It escapes unhurt, but not the bad guys...

Also both the SC and the BMW used by the wheelman, have Momo Prototipo's...

Documentary about the band Chicago "Now More than ever:The History of Chicago" from 2016. (I know, too much plane time with Delta). Must have been a Porsche 911 fan involved in making this movie.
1. Scene at 32:50 from 1972 with a quick shot of the Capitol building with band members and a white 911 coupe passes in front of the camera. Looks like old footage but somebody selected that moment.
2. 92:05 you see the unmistakable exhaust tip and accordion impact bumper of a 911

One of the Pardini's (director or band member) must be into old 911's

“Patriot Games”! Loved those 911 scenes!

There’s also the 944 from “Sixteen Candles”.

Here’s an obscure one.

“Adam at 6 A.M.” Michael Douglas, 1970. He’s a CA college professor who has a relative in MO die. He drives CC in his 912 Targa (Tangerine as I recall) for the funeral, falls in heat for a local chick, has a life epiphany, etc., etc., etc.

This movie debuted in Kansas City because the MO end of it was in Cameron, MO. I was in the K.C. Region PCA at the time so we went as a group to “show the flag” with a lot of Porsches for that event.

I don’t know anyone that saw it after that and I don’t think it’s ever made TV.

A french TV series named Balthazar about a cocky forensic pathologist. Every season he drives a different auto; season 1 was a very cool Alpine A110, season 2 a sixties Mustang and season 3 is a long hood Porsche. Check out S3/E3 for a few great shots, it can be found on Acorn TV with subtitles.
