Shorter MOMO hub? Added SRP quick release.

Did some searching here first but haven't really found an answer.

Installed the Smart Racing quick release this weekend and it moved the steering wheel closer, almost too close.
Current hub is the MOMO L0231 hub, wanted to know if there is a shorter one that would work?
Is the Sparco any shorter? Is there something really short as I have found spacers that could be added.

Thanks,
Phil

You need the MOMO hub without the "L" designation. On the L231, the L stands for long. The shorter or standard hub is just a 231, no "L".
I know you just got a Smart Racing quik release unit, and I know it is a very fine one and rather pricey. But I too have an L231 MOMO hub, and several wheels I like to use and swap out, depending on what kind of driving I'll be doing. I found this cheap little quick release on Fleabay and ordered several. Heck for $9 plus $10 shipping you can't go too far wrong! The nice thing about this unit, is that it is THIN. Works super with my L231 MOMO hub and feels solid as a rock when installed, and the quick release works great! I know these are made to appeal to the "RICER CROWD", but worked super for me. By the way, they also allow you to retain the use of your horn!

Are you sure?

Closer is better. Maybe give yourself a few weeks to get used to it? I thought that getting the wheel closer on the 911 made the driving experience MUCH better...and it was already good :-)

Closer to you? That's uncomfortable.

Don't blame you.

there is another brand of quick release wheel adapter that is not as deep as the srp one. i have the same set up as you and with short legs was feeling it was going to be a problem. i did get used to it after a spell and it's common place for me now. if you wanted i would do a search in the racing-AX forum for it. there have been discussions there about the other unit and a lead on where to get them could be had too. i think they are from canada

Have you seen this super-nice quick release hub from Rothsport. I plan on getting one for my car.

Looks like they have steering hubs for Momo's as well.

I installed one about 8 months ago, I'm 6-4 and I'm thinking of getting rid of it as it's too damn close. Maybe with time I will get use to it?

Did find a MOMO C231 but it was only 1/2in shorter than the L231.
I've only played within in the garage but felt too close and it seemed that my elbow hit the door bar, might try a few things first.

Britain, the Rothsport hub might be a winner, I could also put additional spacers to fine tune the position also.

Yea, appearantly the Rothsport Hub is being used in applications outside of Porsche cause they are very nice units. I have played with one and they are very well built with virtually no slope. I have to get one for my racecar.

No, it wasn't that sweet looking device.

Just ordered the hub adaptor from Rothsport, talking to Jeff sounded like it would put it at the right location.

That is a great little adapter. I just might get one. is it pretty well built?

I have my wheel as far foward as possible by modifyin the Momo hub and using a smart Racing spacer with lojng bolts and the Momo bolted directly to it. I HATE the wheel close to me.

But that adapter looks pretty darn good to me.

I checked one of those out on another car. It's very awkward to remove and there was alot of play in the wheel. I ended up going with the Snapoff Race quick release and I've very happy with it.

It's a great little adapter! Certainly wouldn't use on a race car, but it's very well built and gives the wheel a real solid connection. I have three differant size wheels I use, so I bought three of these units. I only needed one of the piece that bolts to the hub, but needed three of the part that mounts to the wheel.
So now I have three quick release wheels with less than $60 spent on adapters. Try one, you'll like it!

Don't know about your experience, but on mine you press a button and turn the sleeve. Not the least bit awkward. Also my wheel feels as tight as my bolt on wheel!
The most important thing for me is the fact that it's THIN, and will work for many applications where some of those big 2-3" monsters won't!

It think that there are two different discussion going on here.

The Rothsport Adapter is ideal for race cars or street cars and is NOT awkard to remove and does not have any slip.

Now, the other adapter in question here might have these issues, but I have no experience.

For those who bought the Rothsport Adaptor, please post a picture of it installed.
