Racing Simulator Cockpit for iRacing...ideas?

Im thinking about welding up a racing sim cockpit. I just recently got hooked on iRacing at iRacing.com and Im getting sick of the pedals sliding around and the steering wheel shaking my beer off the workstation. I was wondering if anyone here has fabbed up something. If so, id love to see your rig.

Haven't done one myself but there's a sweet looking setup on this site for ideas.

I am currently building one up. I have access to a tubing bender so it is not just a cut and weld. I have pictures but not dl'ed from camera yet. You might get some ideas here.

The latest news!

I welded up some rectangular stainless tubing that attaches under the front of the frame rails of the factory seat from my 911. This kicks the seat a bit back so it it is easier to look up at the TV. The wheel support comes up between your legs with a "T" on the top that the wheel clamps to. I'm not doing iRacing though, just Gran Turismo 5 on the PS3.

Works really good but if I was doing it again I would make the support come up the side so it is easier to get out of the seat when my back is out.

Been having a lot of fun racing the RUF BTR on the Nordschleife. Last Saturday morning had about 12 RUFs in a 16 car race for a few hours. Met a real nice canuck with an 88 Carrera who was getting his "It's in the garage for 6 months" frustrations out.

Oh, and the Fanatec wheels look to be complete porn for racing games...

Did it at home with wood. Use a old car seat, that works great. A couple of things to consider. Different people will use it. So my chair is still on the sliders for adjustability and the steering wheel is mounted to something I can push or pull to get the distance right. I also found that I added some extra angle to the pedals as they lay too flat on the floor to be comfortable so the pedals sit on a wedge shaped block now. You will need to secure that block and the pedals....but its better than the pedals floating across the floor...

The seat\pedals sit on a sheet of plywood, the seat is on a set of 2*4's to raise it a bit. Then the wheel is on a seperate piece ( mini desk ). Real simple to make.....

I got a Playseat as a present. It works very well and the finish is very nice also.

I currently have this setup ^ http://www.fanatec.de/webshop/new_usa/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=88&osCsid=5c85205cb96e82a2f8b1dba3f8733483

I would love a 3 screen cockpit with racing seat , http://www.fanatec.de/webshop/new_usa/product_info.php?products_id=45&osCsid=5c85205cb96e82a2f8b1dba3f8733483 but unfortunately I am married & must share the house with my wife and two daughters.

Wow, there's a lot of engineering going on here. Nice! However, I took the simple rout.

I found an old/used computer desk on Freecycle, disassembled it, made a cockpit, mounted my wheel and pedals, then used an old 914 seat. Whole project took an hour, was free, and I've been using it since GP Legends was new!

Here is what I made from an old exercise machine. It's not finished yet.

I made this one out of wood (before I bought a welder) that I use for iRacing. On the iRacing forum in the hardware section there's a long thread w/lots of photos of home made get-ups. It's crazy how "into it" some folks are! I consider mine pretty far down the "into it" road, but its nothing compared to some!

Yup. I like it, although don't know any different as it's the only one I've used. I don't like the pedals though. Heel-toe is not possible and there is no braking feedback so the only cues you have for threshold braking are visual and sound.

True, but is a very good wheel regardless. There may be some that provide more feedback but $$$$

I am using a Mac w/Bootcamp. Not the best set-up, but adequate (and it's what I have!)

Clubsport Pedals provide a lot more feedback.

If h/t is problem, and you don't want to use autoblip (you give up a lot of time on shifts), you can always use a steering wheel button for the clutch...

Trying to rejuvenate some interest in an Iracing Pelican league so I bumped this thread. Check out this thread in the Autocross/Racing forum if interested and start on page 2 post # 32.
