What temp should my car be running at. It seems that if the temp reachs more than 210 degees, the car starts bogging and hesitation when accellerating. It doesn't hit much higher, just above the 210 mark. I think I may need to update my loop for a bigger cooler possibly even with fan. Anyone else having problems like this in arizona?

210 f is not anywhere near hot enough to cause your motor to have any problems, running or otherwise. I was in Tucson last month in my 911 and saw 230 on the gauge while on the highway with no problems. The high temps may be causing the fuel to vaporize in a line somewhere or your fuel pump may be getting tired, but the oil temp alone will not cause this. My car runs at one needle width under the mid point on the gauge. You want it to be around the middle part of the gauge and out of the "cool" region before going over 3500 rpm's. If you are running dino oil I would stay under 240 or so, and syn oil under 250/260 or so just to keep the motor happier. I only see anywhere near this when running in the summer with the A/C going and stuck in traffic. Joe

I guess I may have a fuel problem then... I need to start reading more about this car. The car only does this after it's been sitting in traffic getting hot...

oh.. I forgot something. after it starts doing that if I drive at a decent speed for a good distance and the temp gauge drops alittle it stops doing the hesitation. I never had a problem when it was colder outside. Do you think I'm vapor locking somewhere? too much head in the engine compartment?

Could be fuel or could be the coil as Ron mentioned. Do not feel that oil has anything to do with it. When was the last time the motor had a good tune up? I would start at square one and do a tune up and oil and fuel filter change unless its been done recently. That may not fix it but eliminates a lot. Heat could effect the coil or electronic ignition box but feel that once either started to break down that they would continue to do so, and not change when the motor cooled down a bit. I have an extra ignition box if you want to try that... let me think about this one for a while... If Warren or John could get in on this one feel that they might be a big help here as well. Joe

Check the following thread, as it is closely related and everything suggested applies to your engine. Regarding the spark plug air seals ... if shriveled or cracked, they need to be replaced with VW part 111.905.449 from an independent VW or foreign parts supplier ... NOT a VW dealer, as VW supperceded the part with an 'A' suffix, and it does NOT work on an OEM 911 Beru connector! The aftermarket parts are still being made in Mexico and Brazil, and are cheap ... but make sure the ones you get are soft and flexible, because you need to get a minimum of 12 and keep the spares in your glove compartment!
