Here's where I'm at with these lights. I did one small prototype run of 3 boards to check fitment. Got them close, but need some adjustment. I will make the adjustments and run a couple more boards. If these work, I will order a larger quantity. They have to be right and fit and work well.

I buy the boards and assemble them by hand, one at a time. It's a slow process but it's the only cost effective way to do it. I have a colleague to help with the assembly.

I need some help though; I'm not familiar with the 911 family over the years. These boards fit my 1986 930 brake lights. How many years of the 911 had the same brake light fixture size?

I am planning to do the rear turnsignals as well but these will be later.

I've thought about the backup lights as with the 914 but the whole point of these is to increase safety so people won't use our cars as battering rams as they text/email/sleep behind the wheel.

Hi Bob,

I've been sitting on these for quite a while because I couldn't figure out a nice set of clips like I did for the 914 LED boards. Finally had eureka moment this weekend as I experimented with different plastic clips that I made with my new 3d printer.

I feel comfortable moving forward now.

I believe the same fixture was used on all LWB cars, '69-89.

Philips has a set of low-draw LED bulbs readily available for $40 a pair. They are bright in all directions, and are a drop-in replacement for 1156, 1157, and a few other standard bulbs. They're DOT-approved as well.

The turn signal flasher may/probably not work correctly as it depends on a certain current load to operate correctly. Might need a load device/circuit inserted in the turn signal circuit or a correct LED-compatible flasher to fit the factory 4-pin connector.

Here's nice-to-have features I would appreciate:
- Instead of a square light pattern, format the PCB with an array of LEDs in a circular pattern (e.g. 2" dia.); This creates a circular, 911R-type look to the rear.
- Angle the outer rows outward to increase the angular light cone.

Yes, but why not include the inner rows? Otherwise the lit taillight looks like a donut (nothing personal against donuts). IOW, make it solid red for more light volume like your solid red square, except it's round like the light pattern from these, but much more visible than what these weak bulbs produce:

That's what I had in mind. However, not sure about the resultant lighting effect. I noticed this LED cluster pattern isn't as tight as your previous 2-row donut layout. Perhaps provisions for resistor mount area on the back side? I'm guessing folks here might prefer less a contemporary Audi-like taillight look for a more vintage, single-source "bulb" appearance.

BTW, there's a random LED around the 11 o'clock position (inside the outer ring). An extra copy and paste element in the mockup?
