I ordered a bunch of 3rd brake light PCBs. Should have them available in about 3-4 weeks.

Installed mine yesterday. What a difference! Big thumbs up to Jerry for producing these.

Thanks,

Just a heads up: My daughter is getting married next week so my time in the next 2 weeks will be limited.

I have several sets of boards ready to ship this weekend and they will go out. If you sent payment within the last week or so, those boards will be shipped in about 2 weeks.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Spoke, I may have missed it somewhere, but are the brake LED boards assembled of white or red leds?

I use 3 different color LEDs depending on the color of the lens and use.

Red LEDs for brake and red rear turnsignal lenses.

Amber LEDs for front turnsignals and rear amber turnsignal lenses.

White LEDs for front running lights with clear lenses.

The color of the lens will filter out most of the wavelengths not consistent with the lens. Using white LEDs behind red lens would filter out much of the white wavelengths allowing a small portion of the white LED light through.

I need to ask a favor of anyone who has installed my LED brake lights:

Pull the 3rd brake light bulb out and with the car on, see if the brake lights light very gently.

It would probably be easier for those with the periscope 3rd brake lights since getting into the back seat of the 911 to remove the 3rd brake light bulb is a real pain in the ass.

Two 911 owners have had an issue when the brake lights were changed to LEDs AND the 3rd brake light also changed to LEDs. One used my 3rd brake LED and one used an aftermarket type LED.

The issue appears to be some leakage in the brake switch. This leakage isn't noticed when at least one standard bulb is in place.

Still trying to figure out what is going on. I plan to do this test with my 930 this weekend.

Perfect, I knew this but wanted to know that the LEDs were being utilized efficiently.

Hey Doc.

Based on my past experiences with almost all LED configurations except SPOKE's:

The red will be a bit deeper, close to rose like in color but will be bright ( what you want ) This is probably the reason car manufacturers in the beginning used clear lenses to meet DOT approval.

Finally got around to assembling a couple of the V2 front turn signal boards. These have 72 LEDs and can be assembled with either all amber or 48 amber and 24 white.

The white running lights can be turned off when the amber turnsignal LEDs are on. This give better contrast when the turnsignal is on. Many modern cars have this feature.

Here's a clip of the running lights being blanked when the turnsignals engage. I'll take some pics/vid later tonight with these on the car.

Thanks

I'm trying to figure out what loading the cruise control puts on the brake light wire. See the right-most wire in the cruise control wiring is connected to the brake light switch.

Can someone shed some light on what that wire does with the brake light? Do I need to provide some resistance to ground if all brake lights are LEDs?

Doesn't that just disengage the cruise control? That is, a +12-volt signal on that wire tells the cruise control to disengage.

What was the final outcome of this mystery?

This is what I'm finding out. One 911 owner changing to LEDs for brake and 3rd brake lights is seeing the 3rd brake light on very gently. It looks like some current is generated from this connection.

He removed the cruise control module and the dimly lit 3rd brake light went out. There is current coming out of this signal to ground through the LEDs. With Standard bulbs this little bit of current would do absolutely nothing. With LEDs, this small current is enough to light the LEDs.

The key now is to find a suitable ballast resistor to keep the LEDs off and cruise control functioning.
