Hazard warning light

I've spent a lot of time attempting to get my hazard warning light to work without much luck. I've replaced the relay and the switch. Today, I finally got the lights on the right side to flash but not on the drivers side. I think the problem is with the wiring on the dash switch. I've switched them in many different ways without any luck. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the dash switch or any suggestions?
Thanks,
Gary

The flasher unit is number 45 on your wiring diagram. If you do not have one. You will need to get one. If you are going to work on the electricals of these cars. A wrong wire attached can burn out your electrical wiring. You might also like to try the 912 BBS

Ifausty:

You might try cleaning all the connections. They have been known to be corroded on these older cars. If fact you might just clean all the connections on the car. Then it is just the matter of making sure that the wires are correct. If you are having a problem.

You might also get or make a larger wiring diagram. It will help you trace the wires. I use one that is about 24"x40".

I encountered the same problem while trying to fix the hazard lights on my '67. Spoke to a mobile mechanic by phone (go figure) and he suggested i start at the fuse. I believe it is number 7 going from front to back. Anyhow, I tested the continuity of the fuse-checks good. I checked the power from one side of the fuse to the other-no good. I just took out the wires from the fuse block and twisted them together then put them back in place and screwed down the fastner and badabing!! But still no hazards. Funny thing is, even when my ignition is off, I can put on my blinkers and that side will light up but will not blink. Not so sure they should even have power from the blinker switch with ignition off. Good luck!!!

Oh yeah, the high beam would work on both sides but the main beam was no good on the pass. Just to include another symptom.

Ghans : I do have a similar Problem but I think it is the Relay , is that the one that goes above the Pedal Asm. ? I have ordered PN : 914 618 303 11 but it has 4 pins instead of 3 .

Do you happen to know which will be the correct one ?.

Thanks.

I had a similar problem last month. Mine was a combination of issues but the main problem was that the flasher relay (not the hazard relay) was based on the 550 relay. When it was suggested that I replace it with an EL13 based relay I did it and that fixed the majority of my problems. Its amazing how much is messed up if the wrong relay is used!

A number of sites and people even recommended the 550 relay. Maybe it worked in their cars but definitely not mine. Make sure you are using an EL13. Good luck - it's a frustrating problem, I know!

DINO - double check the relay on yours too. I had the EXACT symptoms until I swapped out that relay.

Here is a link to the thread that Dave used as his information source. I recently made one of these for my 68 and it works flawlessly. It also worked great on my 67.
