I think it is so weird how owners of some models bash the other models to feel better.

I have a JEEP and they (jeep owners) do the same thing. The CJ guys bash the Wrangler guys..The Cherokee guys bash the Liberty guys..etc

I bet every car gets bashed on some fourm or another.


I think unless you own or owned both cars any commmets on each is just a waste of time for everyone. I have never owned or even driven a 911 so I will not comment on the car...I wish some of the 911 and other P-car owners would do the same with 914's.

I'll still drive my 914 when i can get it to shift an wave to all P-owners

Both cars have good points and bad points.
Driving on the street, I prefer my 911. On the track or in the tight twisties I miss my 914s.

I can tell you one thing I'm sure of, 914 owners are more fun to hang around with. Every time I go to a race or swap meet or car show I end up surronded by 914 owners past and present. On average I'd say they are more down to earth, maybe I just have more in common with them.
I have some very good friends who drive 911s but I also know some real jerks that drive 911s. I've only met a couple 914 owners I didn't care for, most are good as gold.

You think the 911/914 war is bad.....I just got back from the 912 show up in Solvang. Those guys really got a hard on for the 911s......of course it did not help that we showed up in a 911 and my 914 powered 356 outlaw.....

Once we showed that we did not take anything serious their panties got unbunched a bit....

Look at my signature below....yup, I own both. At my first PCA get together some time back (and my last with this region I might add) I drove the 914. Although most folks in this not-to-be-named region were pretty nice folks, I had one guy tell me "Did anyone tell you you have to own a REAL Porsche to be part of this Club?" I smiled shyly and called him a F*ckhead under my breath and went on my merry way. No one else had a 914 at the event so I got alot of attention being the sole teener.

I love my crappy shifting go cart, so much that I was most proud of her to drive her to my first PCA event. While I own both (3) types of our favorite manfacture, I could really care less about what others think, but I don't have to hang around them and listen to their BS about superiority.

frankly i fail to understand the "crappy shifter" mind set. replacing a whooping 4 bushings, 1 ball cup (73 and up), and properly adjusting the shifter and clutch makes for a nice operation. nothing you do on the outside will remedy a 30 y.o. abused and worn trans, regardless of how fancy a shifter you throw at it. you want to bang gears get a 67 mustang and a verticle gate shifter. owner/operator maintenance and adjustment (or lack there of), is 90% of the problem.

I have a 911, 914 and a 928...you think the 914 folks get the raw end..try showing up in a 928!...funny thing is they get really miffed when i mention that the 928 is one of the truly 100% designed by porsche cars. But for me, they all have their good sides...and I love to drive each one for different reasons (I have a very forgiving wife!).

Crappy Shifting...?
Didnt the early 911's have the old dogleg 1st gear??? And for what reason.?..they werent even mid-engined! Now thats weird.
I've driven a cuple o' them and they're no dream.
The 356 A Monkey-Motion is tighter than those.
Might as well shift with yer foot....my 69' VW Single Cab is tighter than all of em!
Personally I say if you want tight shifting and A/C and computer governed yaw sensory braking and awesome heat and all the comforts of the Concord, get a Honda...and then you wont have to listen to all that horrible whine from the engine either.
911's rock! And so do 914's...but nothing shifts like a VESPA!

I checked out Wayne's original post and found the 911 guys much less annoying than represented here - our skin is lookin pretty thin. I've driven both my teener and a race prepped C2 on the track, they were both a blast (the '11 had wider rubber, for now), but I'll stick with my teener because it is faster, *I* built it, and it's fun being the "red headed step child that can kick a$$ if it wants to". In my local PCA region, it's the 928 guys that get the most ribbing by far, but its all good natured. Whatever you bring to the track (once it passes tech ) gets respect.

Go-Kart with a sloppy shifter? It's a compliment (see go kart comment above); the sloppy shifter thing is one of those endearing "personality quirks" that can be tweaked out of the equation merely by updating with tight tolerance (ie, NOT the plastic ones) bushings.

Got em both.... prefer to drive the 914, get more attention in the 911. I feel like I own the 914 (know it absolutely inside / out)....and feel like I am the caretaker of the 911. I have been to PCA events in both and get more attention in the 914.... cuz you "don't see them on the road much anymore". I spend more time on the 911 board and actually haven't seen too many people I didn't like. I think both boards are so similar when it comes to clickiness and at the same time, helpfullness. I don't think I could maintian my 911's, or 914's without the help of either of these boards! So THANKS! Brian

For those that are "seasoned" enough to remember the cars of the era and raced them, the 914 was a dream, the 911 was a nightmare and the Engilish/Italian cars were, well...........,

They can bash all they want - I'm not fond of wine and cheese and I don't lift my pinky while sipping the fine wine. I'm a driver and that says all I need to. So, get your ass heavy tail dragger out the way, I'm doing an outside pass..............., (while you spin into La La Land).

Dunno. They tend to be weekend cars and they aren't suited to the city. Mine sneaks around NW Ohio every summer.
