32lbs saved in the fc rx7...not sure what the stock 944 component weights are, then I could give a comparison.

Def. post this on the Rennlist 944 forum for a larger pool of interest. You would need to provide many pictures of the finished product in a 944 first I imagine before you could sell the idea...

Here is the GT racing one with a custom light setup. If the light covers were a little more durable it would be perfect.

I love the idea of getting rid of the mechanism.

I would venture the headlight mechanism should be about 30lbs similar to the Rx7 you weighed Mac.... I have one set sitting on my bench I may weigh just to be sure.

He ended up using some aftermarket foglights as lights.....

wow...I was trying to think of something with a bit more elegant a casing...that kit would be simple as hell (comparatively) to make.

How much is the gT racing setup and what lights does it use? HID?

SO the gt racing kit......... cost ~400 Square headlights, buckets and plastic cover.... The bucket and the cover costs ~315 from them.... and then you would need your own light setup.

The biggest problem with that setup like I mentioned is the lens. Cheap.

Mac If you could make a custom bucket with a two light staggered per-side arrangement (similar to the pics you posted) that would look nice....

Okay...I got an idea...

How about I just make the buckets and covers? Provisions for types of lights will be settled later...

I would say people would be more likely to go for a "kit" type setup... I hate the pop up mechanism.

What about making nice durable lenses for the GT racing set up as well.

Unless he can go to glass, which he said he can't work with, I think his best efforts should be to make the plastic lenses as best he can and make them as inexpensive as possible. Users just have to accept the fact that the lenses are a replacement item.

Even with the protective coatings and additives plastic lenses are still going to get scratched and milked up from UV attack. And you better pay attention that the bulbs you use have a UV filter on them. Not all do and then you have the UV ray attack not only from the sun but also from inside. Even the big auto companies haven't seemed to have figured these problems out yet.

I'd definately be interested if you could produce these buckets with covers for a reasonable price.
I'm planning on doing a HID conversion, but I was going to re-use the pop-up mechanism, just make it pop up only half-way, since I don't have the ability to create buckets and covers. But if you made them, it would make my conversion 10 times easier.

Count me in for a set Makenzie71! I was considering the GT Racing kit, although I believe it is $600-700 for everything. Personally I think it should be good for a 20-30lb weight savings. Think about it, there's the balance bar, headlight buckets, covers, motors, etc. The main reason I want to convert to non-popup headlights is for the purpose of updating the looks and cleaning up the engine bay. Removing all the popup associated parts should clean up a ton of room in the front of the engine bay.

You the same porschephile as on txsupras? For some reason I thought you had a carrera...not that you can't have both...just saying.

It's going to be in the run of $5~550, a little over my benched goal but it's going to be made with genuine HELLA H9 (I believe that's the right bulb) modules and plug-and-play harnesses. Lighting will be far superior to the stock headlamps with this setup.

I'll offer a lower model product, too, but it will be made with whatever projectors I can find at the time that are DOT approved...this will range from a variety of OEM projectors from salvage yards to some angel eye ghetto looking aftermarket (but still DOT approved) assembly. I make no guaruntees for the lighting quality other than that it will at least be as good as stock. This is going to run $400 flat.

Everything will include poly-composite bucket with a shield sealed and attached to it via 6 small bolts (I'm going to be my best to keep the bolts out of sight, but it's the only 100% "secure" way to attach the shield). The lights and brackets will be a seperate piece that bolts up to factory perches, and the shield/bucket will bolt down over them.

As soon as I have a full day to devote to it I'll go ahead and put together a p-type.

no, black. But the lenses are going to be easily detachable for painting. I can only really do white, black, and a couple shades of red.

Yeah...they can be painted like any other part. The shields are detachable so all you'll have to do is unbolt them and scrape the sealent off, or you can request to have them sent unassembled, and use your standard painting procceedure.

Yep, that's me. My friend Jaime is the one that started TSC, so I usually hang out with those guys. Eventually I'd like to buy a mk3 turbo as well, since I love them too. I have an '86 944 turbo. Also, I just fulfilled a childhood fantasy and bought a great condition '66 911. Also, I'm going to email you about the custom catbacks you were offering not that long ago.

Count me in for the ~$500+ H9 type conversion.

Id be interested in a set minus lights, that is, if the price is right =)
I plan to install some bi-xenon projectors from an Audi A6/BMW X5.
