Clutch Cylinder problem , please Help

Hello,

I have a problem with my 85/1 944; sometime for some reasons i just lose the pression on the clutch pedal, the pedal almost completely bottom out and i can hardly shift. And few hours later the pedal "spring effect" return just normal to full travel.

I heard that is the slave cluth cylinder OR master cylinder.

Where this is installed and how long it may take to do it ?

Any help will be really appreciated.

Take care guys.

Jonathan

My master cylinder just went. I'm replacing the master, slave and hose that connects them based on the advice of others who have had this problem. I'm doing the job tonight. I'll let you know how it goes.

If the fluid level is ok then the master cylinder probably is leaking internally. I would replace both cylinders, the pressure hose and the blue hose that goes from the fluid reservoir to the master cylinder. If you are doing this yourself, you WILL need some sort of pressure bleeder. Expect to spend a few hours doing this job.
If you can't do it, take it to a shop that understands Porsches.....

I had an internal seal leak on my master cylinder. I would lose pressure and after several minutes, it would come back. If I reached down and manually worked the pedal several times, the cylinder would repressureize. Can't do this while driving.

I agree with Britwrench. Change both cylinders. Although, I don't think you need to change the tubes. I haven't had a problem with the tubing after 2 years. I changed the master only and 2 months later I had to change the slave. Since then no problems.

For a detailed explanation of this procedure, search this BBS. It is very well documented on several posts.

Thank you for the info.

What would you recommend to change first ? the master or the slave ?

If you are going to do both, I would start with the master - it is a little harder to get out. Need a little flexability to get at the far nut.

Don't forget to disconnect the master cylinder rod at the clutch pedal. Be careful re-attaching the master to slave line - you can crossthread it if you aren't careful.

I advise changing the blue tubing from the brake master to the clutch master - it does deterorate over time.

The slave takes about 10 minutes to change - again be careful attaching the brake line.

Make sure to bleed the clutch completely - use pressure or vacuum bleeding (I've always had good luck with vacuum, others haven't)
