Long time Porsche owner but new to 928's
Can any of you experts give me any idea as to what value you would put on this car?
Looks to me to be cosmetically near perfect (especially with minor clean up). Not sure I'm into buying now especially since my wrench is not a big fan of 928's so I'm really just wondering what you guys think of this example and what a fair price would be.

Very very nice car - worth $21500 if you are going to keep it as a garage queen.
If you just need something to drive there are better bargains out there.

I would only be looking at adding 3-4K miles per year.

nice car----BUT:
nothing said about timing belt/h20 service (replacement). I would think this is just an oversight by the seller, but he seems to have a handle on everything else.......? $22K due to low miles and clean interior---then again----why doesn't the stereo work? I agree with Roger, a garage queen at best. $20K, fix the stereo, and supply docs to support (recent) TB/h20 pump change. OR........ put another $20k with it, and buy the GTS that's on eBay. Then you'll have something (a real garage queen). OR........ You could just put another $10K with that, and buy a new pickup like everyone else......just kidding!

I think its most important that you get a car that suits you, buying other than pretty much just exactly what you want is sometimes not a good thing. That said, in my book this car rings all the right "general" bells. I don't care for the interior color, but I think thats something one can get used to.
If it suits you I would suggest talking to the owner immediately, and maybe putting down a deposit contingent to a clean PPI. I think the mileage and history are almost PERFECT, low overall miles, but a good recent history of driving it 5k a year for the last 6 years. Real estate is location location location, Porsche its condition condition condition.

Or, you could buy this one:
![]() ![]() Now priced at $25,000 ($8.5k less than it started) on cars.com with 3,500 original miles. If a 5-speed is not a deal breaker this might be a great car! http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;jsessionid=2WJWLJXMNIVCXLAYIEPU2VA;?tra cktype=usedcc&searchType=21&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=YEAR+descending%2CPRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-%7CE-%7CM-_41_%7CD-_388_%7CN-N%7CR-10000%7CI-1%7CP-YEAR+descending%2CPRICE+descending%7CQ-descending%7CZ-28270&aff=national&paId=134469323&recnum=7&leadExists=true

I enjoy finding a great deal, but 928's are rare enough that prices simply are not stable or even rational. If you make price or value a high priority in your selection I think you substantially reduce the chance of buying a nice car or being happy with it in the long run.
Find the car you like in as best of condition as you can, and don't let a few thousand dollars kill the deal. If a $3k or $5k speedbump in the road to happiness is more than you can handle, chances are good a 928 isn't what you should be buying. We could argue all day long about what constitutes nicest. My opinion is that very low mileage cars are not good options for a driver, and that anything that hasn't been driven 10k miles recently is potentially full of PM waiting to happen. Less than 80k and more than 40k miles seems like a sweet spot, not so low the price is crazy, not so high that after a few years resale suffers.

Have you experienced problems after buying a low mileage 928? Potentially their could be mechanical problems but, that has NOT been my experience with the 6 low mileage 928s I've owned. Personally, I would rather spend the money catching up on maintenance than cosmetics such as paint and interior but that's just me. Look at the condition the seats appear to be in not to mention the carpet. You can't recover the seats and/or replace the carpet and get them to look as nice as these appear to be in the above picture. Tired is hard to overcome. Different strokes.....

Its all in what floats your boat, something like that 4500 mile car would make me crazy, a mint low mileage old car is WAY too fragile for my use. Its one dent away from misery. Look at the hell Sterling is going through, and I can guarantee you Jim Bailey would not suffer in a similar fashion with the brown car.

Guess I'm just not that hard on my stuff. I put 30k miles per year on my SUV and after a year and a half it still looks brand new.

I turned into a genuine Porsche class nut case with my 83, parked it by itself in distant corners of parking lots, walked around it every time I came back, and it was hit in the first 90 days I owned it. Some guy in a pickup tried to squeeze in next to Mecedes, then backed up across the parking lot in a huge slow sloppy turn into my passenger side rear quarter panel.
A lot of damage is random. And its not the damage, its the consequences of even minor damage. I am still fussing over details and my car was hit in January. Matching the paint, pulling trim and windows to get the clear coat done right, parts NLA, and the knowledge that despite my best efforts its not going to be equal to the factory paint. Fragile value.

That is what I paid for my 89 S4. did a full service and it was a very reliable car. Shocks were too soft for my liking. Best highway car I ever owned, and it would take real well to an X pipe and suspension upgrades.
I would buy it on provision that it passed a PPI. AC should WORK ! Have you talked to the seller ? Give him a call. |

That's a nice car. I would hold out for the 5-spd car. I gave 10K for my car with 169,000 on the clock and it came with 30K in receipts. I have toyed with the idea of selling my twin turbo and building another on an ultra low-mile platform car but in the end I have the same car, right? My point is don't let the miles scare you. I would not at all shy away from a car with 100K on the clock if it is clean and tight.

So thats oxblood? Huh, I always thought I had a burgundy interior. I do like the sound of oxblood better. Its a shame that by changing the name it doesn't make it any more attractive. But what a clean car. And a 5 speed too. I agree, it will probably fetch the asking price because of its low mileage and condition. I think I would have a little trouble feeling completely comfortable flogging that car. Its condition is just too clean. Like the buyer said, they are alot of fun to drive and its a shame to let them sit.

BTW, I would find a wrench who really likes 928s. A mechanic who doesn't should never touch one !
