I just Googled your area and this Repair Place showed up. Their feedback looks good. Why not call them to see how much?
Total Recon 911 Orchard St Bethlehem, PA 18018-3821 (610) 954-8995 ...or just get some Simple Green and some fish tank gravel and clean it yourself?

I tell you, this board is magical. Dano, I tried that place twice yesterday with no answer and a shady-sounding machine asking for a passcode. Tried again this morning with the same luck. After reading your post, I figured what the hell and gave it one more go....got an appointment set up to drop the tank off following the new year. They quoted me around $100. More than what you guys had yours done for, but I won't have to do it again anytime soon and at least it'll be professionally done so I'm cool with it. Thanks!

Yikes! For $100, that Tank better come back looking like it was just Molded from the Gas Tank Factory. Give it a good inspection with a Flashlight before dropping it off. When you pick it up, make sure it's 100% free of any of the Rust and Impurities in there. Use that Flashlight again. For $100, it needs to look perfect.

$100 strikes me as a we don't know what were doing and need to set a high price in case we screw up.
Take a look inside with a flashlight that won't blow it up from fumes, and consider some other options, DIY or shops. |

So this hose clamp to get the last hose detached from the tank is just not cooperating with me. The screw will not turn and is pretty much stripped at this point. Would you guys cut the clamp or sacrifice the hose? Not sure about cutting the clamp due to gas fumes still lingering and sparks and what-have-you. I would like to replace all the hoses anyway.

I agree. That is a price quoted by someone who doesn't really know or want to do the job you are asking. Did you check with a local radiator shop? They usually have a large vat that they can dip it in. The chemicals they use can't be too harsh since they are usually barehanded with the radiators.

Dang, thats a decent project car. Wish mine was that well off.
4.5 yearold gas--That probably means the gas is older than this ethanol **** with all of the additives in it (Gas is bad after 6 months now). It -Might- be alright.. How does it smell? And for the tires.. Tires last longer than 5 years. Especially if they have been out of the sun, and haven't had any weight on them. If they aren't weathercracked badly, they are probably alright. If they are some cheap walmart brand, i might rethink it though.

With the holidays, I haven't been able to drop the tank yet. I will say the gas I drained from it last week looked really good, so if the tank doesn't look bad when it's out, I certainly won't be dropping $100 on it. Santa dropped off a new spoiler so I'm pretty stoked to get the smile back on her. Happy holidays to all of you guys!

I agree with the tank, don't slam so much money into it unless you have to. Try the Simple Green with some fish tank gravel first. That may knock off all the junk in that tank. Simple Green, Hot Effin Water and Gravel. Slosh like you never sloshed, kinda like dancing in the 1980's

OTOH driving around town, back and forth to shops for repair, holding air is fine with me, but I don't own a 928 for getting groceries, so when its time to "drive" it, they need quality current rubber. |

Got the tank out last night (cut the hose), however, didn't have time to look in it since we had people over and I was getting the 'you're being anti-social' vibe from my wife. In her defense, I was being anti-social, but we have priorities
I will get some pics up either later today or tomorrow and we'll see what we're working with. In the meantime, I ordered all new grill pieces and the spoiler installation kit from 928intl since half the bolts broke when I was removing the old one, gonna be ordering a fuel hose replacement kit as well. Hope everybody had a great Christmas.

OK, so the tank is out and here are some pics. My amateur eyes tell me it doesn't look that bad at all. Just the little bit on the bottom. It's probably not worth the $100 to have the radiator shop clean it out. What do you guys think?

Great pic. Your right, it doesn't look as bad as mine did. Reach inside and that should be a cover of sorts and remove it. Put some Hot Water and Simple Green mix, add some fish tank gravel or equivalent and slosh the sheeit out of it. Every which way to get it off the sides and top areas as well. Drain and re-inspect. Do again if you don't feel confident yet. Take pics again. Report back.

About how much hot water and simple green would you say I should use?

On the simple green, i would say just enough to cover the bottom of the tank.
Use as much hot water as you want. Its cheap.

If I were to guestimate, I would dump a bottle of the Simple Green to a Gallon of Hot Water. Remember, your gonna have to swish this stuff and with some gravel. Don't make it so heavy that you can't accomplish the task.
