We have a shortened G-50, had Patrick do it years ago, going to mate it up to a a high HP engine at some point. Like others, I own cars with 901s, 915s and a G-50 car. For my 81, I'm sticking with the 915, but I have both a Haggerty & Wevo shifters to see what I like best and have a Wevo shift coupler. As why people put G-50 in their ads, quite simple, because people want to expand their cars coming up on "Searches", like when you go to Craigslist, and some A-hole uses every car name in the bottom of their ads so it pops up more. That bothers me when I'm searching Porsche and a fricking Hyundai pops up because some dealer did that, much more than when I see G-50 in the title. Remember, not everyone knows these cars like we do..

Those are gocarts, not Miatas. The young Deez must be in front of the pack. I can't place him, but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree as they say. How long before he can reach the clutch in a Miata? How old is the young Deez? Sometimes I wished I'd have had a son. No regrets. I have a beautiful daughter! Actually, I haven't wished or missed a son, but you make me think about it! Enjoy him all your life! I'll enjoy watching just vicariously.

He got a great start from outside pole in that race. Nice gap by turn 1.
He is 15 and just got his learners permit. First lesson is today; Poor instructor
You can race Miatas at 13 per the series rules. He won't start until 16 because of CA track rules.

I remember the learners permit at 15.5 with an adult in the car. In my case, I'd already built the fastest car in town, 68 Camaro that went into a river (at my age 14 when I bought it for $400.00). By 15.5 I drove to school one day, got out in front of the whole HS while Mom got in the driver's seat to take the car back home With a 327 and camel back heads 2002, and 4 speed she made a spectacle in front of the whole Yerington High School. Later I changed out the diff to 373 ratio, but that day it still had original 307 ratio. With the highway gears she had to rev up to get it going.

With those N50 15 inch rear mags and tires she ended up lugging the motor in the end, which made those tires chirp rubber for as long as she was on that street in front of us til the car finally got going. The whole HS was eating lunch on the front lawn. It took a long time to get going. I wasn't embarrassed, for it was only a testament to the car. Nobody in HS could top that. It was nothing more than a REP builder, and I was still a Sophomore. Just some Muscle car and learner permit memories.

Derrick,
that is a very odd photo. Why is there a blurred vertical section on the left side? It's obviously not a depth of field effect from fast lens. Is your sensor dirty?

It's a POS iphone. 1 out of 50 pictures is ok. I've learned to live with it because I'm not carrying a camera with me.

If your kid wants to open wheel race, there's really no better way in the US than to get into spec Miata. That's because of Formula Mazda and how much support Mazda gives everything. But that's a path to Indy.

If one wants to go F1, then the previously mentioned F3 is the way to go after karting. And to get into it, you've got to go race in Europe.

My partner's kid has followed the path and so far hasn't made it. He won the F3 national title in Australia 4 years ago. He's tested with a couple of teams at Silverstone but nothing came of it. He raced a BMW in GT3 on dad's dime for 2 seasons with little success and then one of the Euro teams picked him up to race LMP3. He won the 4 Hours of Monza outright, but shortly after that left the series because his co-drivers kept crashing the car and he just couldn't afford to stay in the series with all the DNFs and car repairs. Now he works as a driving instructor for AMG in Australia and grabs a ride here and there when he can. He hasn't given up the dream yet, but realizes it's likely not to be F1 and more likely will be sportscars and endurance racing. He just turned 23.

.
Funny, I deleted that whole part of my post about testing the waters in Miata and then shipping him to Europe for F3; if he shows potential. Otherwise it's off to college and let the dream go. Europe is about 25% less than here to run F3.
We talked with a team owner about Formula Mazda a couple weeks ago. But there really isn't a lot of competition on the west coast.IMO.
I think the Miata is the cheapest testing ground to find out if racing is worth pursuing. I don't think it is, but it's not my life.

Joey Hand ended up making a decent carer, and living, out of racing in the GT classes.
He's got a win at Le Mans and Platinum ranking.

I don't have the blurred column. It was just that pic. I took three or four pics and that was the only clear shot of him. They are coming into that turn at about 62 MPH. He's probably still doing 50+ MPH there.

If you in CA Deez, let me know the city. Planning a trip home late August/early Sept. I'll be crating and driving from NV to OC/LA. Might have time to swing by if you're in the area or on the way.

I'm in N.CA off HWY 80. You won't be passing me unless you are taking HWY80 East and then South on HWY99 or I5. Too bad it would be cool to put another face to the person.

Joey had to get a factory ride and run in DTM for a few years first though.

Let me do a little homework and ping you privately. There's a new open wheel spec class coming up and I've got some contacts in CA who are involved. I don't remember what it's called and I don't know how far along they are on it, but they are looking to campaign 3-4 cars in 2020 or 2021 depending on how long they take to get up to speed. There will be seats.

Yeah, I Usually do 395 down to OC through Bishop and San Bernadino. My freight forwarder is in Carson called Fujitrans. While in Costa Mesa I stay with a life long college friend who still has a 73S after 30 years. On the other hand, I have gone the other route for other reasons once. This trip I may try to get a few parts to load in the crate if I have the money and if I find them on the way down to CA.
Therefore, all options are open, and if parts I need are on the way, I will definitely veer in other directions to pick them up. I won't have too much time, but if possible, I may pass by your way, and it would be nice to attach your face to the Deez, even see the young Deez future race car prodigy.

I haven't even booked my ticket yet. Also I need to put some WTB wish list on Classifieds. I'm not too cashed up at the moment so I'm shy.

Expect a bunch of PMs from UK members with no forum posts who claim to have what you need. Western Union payment only, of course. ****** scammers...
