I sold a Silver Anniversary Plaque that I think was #736 or close to it......I am in Virginia and sold it to a guy who drove up from NC to see a rusty silver ann car I was selling. He did not want the car but bought the plaque for $100. I can provide a vin if needed. The car was crushed about 4 years ago.

Hey ya'll,
I just bumped into this thread. I own what used to be a 75 S targa Silver Aniversary Edition. For a while I wondered waht that old glue mark in the glove box was, until I found out what the car was! Regretfully, someone in the mid 80's decided to put flares and remove the interior from it, including the dash plaque. When the time to restore it came by, the odds (and funds) were running low to take it back to original. Therefore, a small conversion was done to the car. However, I met a fellow not long ago in my area that has one in PRISTINE condition. He did not know what it was either, just thought that someone had put a plaque in his dashboard! Anyway, here are some pics of both together. Mine is the red one... PS: He does have the correct seats, stored in a bag in his house in order not to screw up the fabric!

Were they all S models or also carrera models?
And how would that relate to the value between them?

Hi Joost, they were produced as a Carrera also. Here are a coupe and Targa that are for sale at the moment and you can see the price difference! Guy

The 25th Anniversary or Silver Anniversary Model were customized 911 and 911S models and celebrated 25 years of Porsche sports car manufacture. Production was split as follows: 154 Rest of the world coupes; 150 ROW Targas; 510 U. S. Coupes;& 249 U. S. Targas. They were grouped as option M426. A genuine Silver Anniversary Edition will have a two-stage heated rear window; headlamp washers; Blaupunkt Bamberg radio; electric antenna; presure cast 6-inch wheels; 18mm rear anti-roll bar; black look trim; 380mm diameter sports steering wheel; five-speed transmission; diamond silver metallic paint finish with plaque on the dash. By the way, there was no 2.7 liter badge on the grille. The plaque on Porsche literature places the plaque on the right side of the glove box opening door. The upholstery and door inserts had the special fabric and black piping was used around the edges of the seats. Carpeting has been known to be midnight blue. -Zioo

Regarding the location of the plaque - I purchased my 1975 911S Targa Silver Anniversary model new in Alabama in 1975. The plaque was not mounted on the vehicle - the dealer provided it as a separate item, which I mounted on the glove box (#255). I still own the vehicle with all original parts and maintenance records. If anyone is looking to purchase one, I would consider selling it. Everything is here and the vehicle is still running, although I don't drive it very much these days. It was never in an accident and is in reasonably good condition, although I have never restored the vehicle and the engine has only been rebuilt one time - a long time ago. Interestingly enough, it was discovered that the original engine had racing cams from the factory.

Racing cams with the CIS? They couldn't have been that aggressive.

Source for the production records is “Collector’s Originality Guide Porsche 911” by Peter Morgan/John Colley/David Fetherston:

“A total of 1,063 Silver Anniversary 911s were made in coupe and Targa form during the 1975 model year to celebrate 25 years of Porsche sports car manufacture. Production was split as follows: 154 Rest-of-World coupes, 150 Rest-of-World Targas, 510 US Coupes, and 249 US Targas.”

Don't know much about your car, but I have heard that the COA's are sometimes misleading. Wouldn't know what direction to point you in, but don't give up. May still be a diamond!

Interesting thread. I wouldn't have thought there'd be much question of whether a plaque bearing 1975 was, indeed, a silver anniversary edition, what with all the whining Excellence does to diminish the 2.7 engine, even after all these years. I just bought one, #145, and have no doubt it's an authentic silver anniversary edition, even though a prior owner chose to replace the fabric seats with faux leather and installed an Alpine radio. Otherwise, it looks pretty well original. The COA, if it's to be believed, shows the engine number matches, but oddly enough, the engine number shows it to be a Carrera engine. I don' t put much stock in that since, as I understand it, they were the same engines as the S got that year (though I'd be curious to hear if someone has different information on that point). Thanks to Zioo for his thorough info on the car. It's good to hear there are still some of these out there. With a limited run that's now 40 years old, it'd be interesting to get a tally on just how many remain.

It could very well be. Can't see or measure the sway bars. The interior was more common than you think, and even if it's diamond silver with that interior doesn't make it a dead ringer. My car for instance has that interior and is diamond silver, has the larger sway bars, etc but the COA says it isn't.

Right now that car is a good buy if the floors or suspension pan aren't soft. I really like that car. If I had the dough I would get it. '75s are growing on me.

I would bet that it is though.

You are correct. Called and it is sold. Not surprising and a steal if the car was solid.
