Hey guys i am new here & i am looking at getting my first 911.
now i love the 911's that have wide bodies & thats what i am looking for. my question to you guys is 1/ price range for a targa that has a wide body conversion? 2/ would a factory wide body be priced more than a converted car? 3/ things to look out for in converted cars there is one on the classifieds that is going for 20k which is nice to look at but man that is high i think especially if there turbos & other cars that for a little higher. or is this a fair price? thanks guys Seb |

Targa w/fiberglass widebody conversion may be priced the same if done to perfection, but worth less than stock to most people. Turbo body conversions were a fad in the 80's & 90's. Now most only do it if they have a 3.6 or turbo for power.
A factory widebody would be worth more than an aftermarket conversion Many items to look out for. Best would be to try and narrow down the choices, and bring your favorite to a shop that specializes in older 911 (not a dealer) for an extensive pre-purchase inspection (PPI) Buying the wrong car can easily cost you more than the car is worth to sort out problems. |

The normally aspirated 911 engines that came after 1984 had EFI and modern engine management and vastly better power capability. The old 2.7 engines before the mid 70s are trouble. You have a lot of homework to do before jumping on a 911 IMHO. |

do not rush into it. take your time and learn about what it is that you actually want. metal is worth more than fiberglass in my opinion and factory widebody is the top of the chain. it all depends what yoy will do with the car. good luck keep us posted.

The factory widebody (M471?) (1984-1989?) not only had the turbo fenders, but also Turbo brakes and Turbo suspension components.. it was, essentially, a "turbo" with the stock, nonturbod 3.2 motor This would be the ideal car to find and would be priced higher than a non factory conversion. Not sure on production numbers for the Targa though.
sometimes cars were "converted" because of an accident, so be sure to check for damage as well as the quality of the conversion.
