I enjoy Adams input and the many others with real information. The combative ones who's sound like they just want to be contrary and looking to fight sour this place.

adam has fielded his fair share of grief, primarily from the same group of blowhards who have it in for just about anyone who buys and resells any porsche for a profit.

i think he handles it well...

There's a point at which yet another rusty tub, or a large guy that carries transmissions, or how many rusted cars you can fit on a trailer and on and on.
Of course you can say don't click but that's not the point. The point is that unlike so much social media this forum is a place to escape from that relentless promo patter.

Perhaps the powers that be could have a sub for shops and businesses where we could choose to go if we want to be advertised to.
Uhhh you do realize this forum is run by a for profit enterprise that throws a constant stream of promotions at us don’t you? Look at all the thread stickies in the main forum or any thread started by someone with Pelican in their user name for evidence.

Folks do speak out here and going through the relevant comments made so far, I see that this thread is no exception. No one is causing anyone grief except in your opinion, yes, you, doing the same, speaking your mind.

Are you suggesting a more heavy handed moderation ?

Pelican can throw as much advertising at me as it likes, its their forum and a privilege to be here. I’m confused how you could have any doubt about the legitimacy of that ?

Unobtainium gets free soft advertising and relentlessly self promotes because they need all of the forums to generate business. Imagine if all the all the vendors who have Porsche related business did what ‘Unobtainum’ do. It would be beyond relentless and people would depart.

IMO Vendors other than the host really should be in a separate sub section for horn tooting / generating business, regardless of weather they are perceived to be an ‘enthusiast’ or not. ‘Flipping’ gets short shrift here, but if you dress it up as enthusiasm it gets a pass. That’s hypocrisy.

Endless self-promotion? Most people don't even know what it remotely takes to take on a business like this. To hang out one's shingle in doing something and making a business out of a passionate hobby is near impossible. You did that. And you need to get the word out there. Everywhere. To everyone.

Don't get trolled dude. If people are tired of your ads or writeups, then don't read them. Simple as that.

As long as I have been on here Adam has been the least confrontational person who has an even-keeled response for everything.

I think his short stories and writeups are great stories of adventure that most of us would want to do in our spare time - but don't.
Ok, I think I'm getting it, thanks for the push.

---Adam

damn you’re obtuse. adam generally fields a lot of crap from those who think it a sin to buy and sell porsche’s for a profit. i don’t get it, that is all.

i made no suggestion of any sort, why you gotta jump the shark?...

The owners of Pelican are essentially giving free marketing space to a captive audience, so they would be well within their rights to charge other parts vendors (their competition) for advertising here, because without these resources their reach would be far more limited.
Instagram is probably the greatest example of a soft advertising platform, pics of peoples passions lead to 'link in Bio'. Currently the gram is wrestling with how to take its share of the millions of $$$ seeping out.

Alternately here on Pelican the owners could compel parts vendors to sponsor a particular forum, to contribute toward the upkeep and staffing. After all it's only right that the host who literally brings the market, gets to share in the profits. Especially true when you have a dramatic run up in prices like 2013 -2017

It makes no sense that business' get the same fantastic resource as individuals regardless of weather parts re selling is your dream or not. It's a business, and any business generates a profit of some size, otherwise there is no point, regardless of passion.

I don’t doubt the legitimacy of what Pelican does, it’s their site to do with as they wish. I just think it’s funny you started *****ing and moaning about promotions and this being a place to escape them when it is anything but. I don’t get the hate for car flippers either. I think it’s great we live in a free market and can buy and sell cars for whatever someone is willing to pay.

Yeah, everyone hates a flipper until they need something. Also, real dealers like myself aren't out there scooping up cars on the open market, snatching them away from regular guys. The cars I buy are not on the radar, so I'm doing the community a huge service by bringing cars into the light, and yes, I make a profit doing it, this is America after all. For example, I did a 50 car deal with a guy a few years ago, it took me five years to put the deal together. I was one of 5 people who had ever laid eyes on the collection, and had I not pursued that deal for 5 years they would still be sitting there. I think we've sold 44 of the cars, so that's 44 guys who have projects now because of my hard work. So before you burn all flippers at the stake, think about where we would be without them.

Y'all need to quit holding Pelican up as some holy unsullied bastion of DIY car guy purity. Wayne sold the place. It's gone corporate. Have you been in the 911 Tech Forum in recent times? There's often 20 or 30 sticky's commercializing everything. Banned ads up top. Etc. etc. People need to get off it.

Adam is a business, a Porsche business. He's not a flipper. He's not a curbstoner. He can be a bit of a braggart at times, but who among us isn't. Can't we just love the cars and not be so hateful towards members of our community who happen to make a living off our hobby?
