Help trying to fix lifter noise ....
96 328i 100,000 5/30 oil
Hello, I am trying to fix lifter noise. Please advise to the best method without tearing the motor apart. I am about to change the oil. Should I run cleaner through the motor first. Seafoam? What weight oil should I change to (thicker or thinner). Synthetic help? Thanks for your advise. Rob[B] |

People will suggest thicker oil.
Unless it is exorbitant I'd just live with it. IF you have reason to believe you have sludge or build up run some B-12 or Marvel Mystery Oil in the oil right before your next change.

I usually don't like thicker oil but a 96 might benefit from a 10w-40. I doubt it reduces the noise though.
