I had a question about my oil cooler some time back and Mike called me with suggestions. Normally that is not so unusual but for someone to call from overseas to help with a problem is over the top!

Engine drop is scheduled tomorrow night. Crossing my fingers as that's the only time I have available.
Gotta get this thing to the dyno!

Got a call from the tranny builder today; he can look at it early next week. So I'll finish the engine drop and cart the tranny to his shop. Will keep you all informed ...

Well the engine and the old tranny are back in the car. Two engine drops in the same car in less than a week is no fun. The wife is PISSED at me for doing the second drop as I had a honeydo list for today that didn't get done.
I decided the injured tranny cannot hold me up any longer. I MUST get this car and these headers to the dyno. Most likely the tranny mechanic will have to order parts bla bla bla and it will take 2 weeks. I know how this stuff goes.
Now I just watched the news and they changed the forecast to rain all week!! Dammit to hell can you give a brother a break?

She's back in business.
I took the opportunity to observe a few things during the 2nd engine swap which had the headers in place. The headers held up the engine and tranny weight just fine and did not budge the narrow gap between the headers and oil line at both the two points where they cross. So headers passed the engine drop test. I actually jacked up the car by the headers.
The stock waste gate is close to the body in order to reduce leverage on that pipe. This too passed the engine drop test as nothing was removed.

Now for impressions. These are mine but I'll be honest.

The sound vs stock is different. It is muted and more quiet than stock. No idea why. I don't like it more than stock but I don't hate it either, it's just different.
The sound on boost is incredible! Like that more than stock.
The driving experience has completely changed. There is a noticeable increase in torque off boost. The car drives like a Carrera when off boost. I like that.
Boost comes quicker and is not as noticeable as before. No more on/off switch. The butt dyno registered more power but today was a cool day so the dyno will have to show me.
No carbon tracking or leaks at the collector. No leaks anywhere.
These headers do what headers are supposed to do, they lower boost threshold and increase driveability. How much more than the competition? I'd have to dyno another brand to measure it. At this level the differences may be subtle. On higher HP engine there should be a bigger gap. That is the next tests that will be done.
These headers will stay on my car permanently to gage longevity. I expect them to out-last the car. Heat exchangers will be retro-fit when finished.

If you have followed the "never seen this problem before" thread you know that my car is down and has caused a HUGE delay in progress. The engine is scheduled to go back in the car for the 3rd time this weekend. A moment of silence would be appreciated as I lock up the hammers and guns.

Good news is the 1st production run is complete.
It took longer than I would have liked but we need to do it right. I have to get a few supplies and then can ship the remaining sets out to you guys who have been patiently waiting.
The 1.625" run for the 911 and hi-po 930s is underway so should not be too long now on those as well.

I promise to have some dyno data as soon as my car is back with the living.

If it weren't for the view count I'd think I was alone here, ha!

Polished a set of headers headed for Florida today. With the new bling maybe they are as good as OBX now. Did I say that out loud?

Thanks Jon, appreciate the support. A fair portion of my business is overseas. The modular design will make shipping easier as they go in 2 boxes.

I'm working on heat exchangers right now. Have some good ideas for increasing the surface area to make more heat out of less space. It'll be chilly here soon so I need to get on that!

I'm hoping heat will only add a couple hundred bucks but will not know until the first set is reproduced.

OK finished with the heat exchangers, just need to soak them in flame retardant.

All jokes aside, I took an hour this evening and mocked this up in cardboard. Once satisfied with how it fits I'll take the pattern and do it in sheet metal.

Brian, are you going to provide access holes so that the flange nuts can be easily tightened (like stock h/e's)? Otherwise, installing those will be a nightmare.

You install them with scotch tape.
Yes there will be access points worked in, this is very preliminary as the inlet and outlet are missing as well.
