Sooooo Impressive!!! :-)

proffighter 11-25-2013 02:10 PM

Battery box holder, 33gr against 58gr of the stock one;)

Maybe a bit over-engineered, but I like it

This week I cut the lug nuts I bought a while ago as they have been way too long.
Not easy to find some aluminum ones with M14x1.5 and conical seat for my OZ-Racing rims.
So a little time spent on the lathe and they look much nicer. The color is fine, but the cutting surface of the machining will not stay that nice, so I have to anodize them again.

Because there is a little Jack Olsen in everyone of us, I went to Ikea yesterday to buy a nice item for my garage:D

Haha, PMSL :D:D So true!

In fact, I'll be driving past an Ikea tomorrow....and it's the same colour as my Colchester lathe!

Excellent work Roland, stunning machining and finishes. What's next on the list?

At least anodizing is homemade;)

PS Just for your interest: They are aluminum 2mm thick...

would your buddy make some extra pairs of those ? I could use a pair maybe 2 :)

I have one pair left, not anodized yet. Not sure if I should store or sell, and if I sell, what would be a fair price (don't forget, shipping would be from Switzerland, not cheap. Maybe it fit's in a letter...)?

What I can offer is to send the CAD etc. file to let cut yourself somewhere in your area

sending the CAD would be great ,we have a water jet cutter in city very nice work he does. Nice to see some paint on this project of yours , so now all these very skillfully made parts can be seen on the car ... keep up the good work . By the way I can't thank you enough for those pics of intercooler big help in my project, hopefully I can get mine on dyno

That has to be the understatement of the century. Wow.
I can't wait to see what your car looks like when finished and how much weight has been lost. Your skills and time to do this project are the envy of every enthusiast.

speednme1 12-20-2013 06:32 AM

Love the color!...btw Roland if you ever decide to make a few of those alu parts for sale keep me in mind...really nice work...

WinRice 12-20-2013 08:22 AM

Nice!

Fresh sheet metal, fresh paint and plenty of fancy parts to bolt on! That's going to be a fun build!

Although my car is everything else, I do love understatement.

... Be patient Brian, you will some day in 2014 (at least my goal;))

Thanks for the kind words

Those parts are mostly designed and made by myself, which means they are not proofed or fit any engineer standards. Therefore it could be some risk of failure etc. Further most of them took a lot of time due my possibilities and skills compared to the result and some went into the trash before finished:D

I don't think I can make some for a price which would make us both and time is very pricy for me;)

Do you mean a specific part here or generally?

PS haven't seen the color in real yet, but it's looks darker on the pics. It (should) is the same as before. At the beginning of the thread you can see it better

I know it isn't - because I think I've asked you before - but in the above pics, the paint looks SO close to my car, Horizon Blue...almost spooky. A trick of the light(ing)!

Great work as always; planning on doing more machining over the Christmas period Roland?

Cheers

Thanks

Mainly I plan to start re-assembly a little. I have made some parts like the plates for bolt down the fuel tank, a thermostat bracket, but they are all not finished yet...

Have a nice weekend guysSmileWavy

proffighter 12-21-2013 06:16 AM

Today I went to the body shop for the last time to pick up some small parts and the stuff he needed to fit like rear lights. Next Monday he promised to deliver the tub :)

However, I took a few more pics

OH Roland ! that does look nice ....
won't be long and you will get to put all those neat little toys in 1 basket ,can't wait to see it rolling. Great color choice and it is the first time I have seen your rear shock support . You have taken a different direction as always.

Wow Roland, that is nice. You should just tour the country displaying this clean tub as a demonstration of sports car excellence ;-)

That garage is a tight fit. Is that where you are putting it back together?

Have a great Christmas

proffighter 12-23-2013 04:54 AM

Hi aseem

Yes, that's where I work on my car since over 10 years. Thight is correct. At least there is some room behind. Not easy to find something bigger here in Switzerland, even more difficult in the near and payable...

LOL yes, I will go on world tour and sell overpriced tickets just to catch a little look at it:D

Nice Christmas as wellSmileWavy

That is one of the most impressive "Porsche on a trailer" pictures I have ever seen! Porsche should hire you to show case their work.
And I have never seen the wheel flares limit based on the garage width but there is a first for every thing.

Thanks, but it's not my trailer...

A little wider would fit too...But then the limit is my belly:D

First issues are already there:

When I fitted the front arms with the RSR bushes, I could not align them to rotate free without binding. Reason is the aluminum crossmember is higher and the front busher lower (more antidive) in a 930 than in a 911. Therefore the rear bushing block, which is only possible to adjust sideways, not in the vertical angle, cannot be compensate the slight downward line of the A-arm. Only if I mount the front bushes without the self-aligning washers, then it will rotate free, because the front bushe is higher then...

The only solution I see, is to make a thicker spacer than stock (about 1mm seems to be enough)on top of the crossmember. As soon I loosen the crossmember, binding stops...

Also I tried to flip the front bushes upside-down, same thing. Does someone else had this problem too?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1388062622.jpg

Flieger 12-26-2013 09:32 AM

If both bushings had the spherical washers then you could enlarge the hole in the female washers by a mm or so and that would give you a little more misalignment capability. However that rear bushing being tight in the crossmember doesn't give you that option. So I think you will have to make the spacer to align the front level with the rear and reduce the anti-dive. Have you talked to Clint? I don't remember hearing about problems with other 930s.

If you really wanted to keep the anti-dive you could probably shave down the thickness of the rear block a little to give you some room for misalignment and put a counterbore for more spherical washers, or just shave it down a lot and not need the counterbore.

jostein 12-26-2013 12:00 PM

Great work, keep posting pictures.

Kozmo930 12-29-2013 06:24 PM

Hi Roland,

Interested in your solution for this bushing problem . I will be putting the same bushings on mine but have not heard of this problem before. I take it that this is the same for both sides ? (binding issue)

Kozmo

Hi Kozmo

Yes, problem is on both sides. There are two possible reasons:

-Crossmember is too high, because the rear bushes are right angled to the member, there is not enough space between tub and front bushes. In this case I will make a thicker bush between crossmember and tub (instead of the factory one)

-The rear bush has some play in the crossmember and when torquing, the bush will be lifted out of alignment, wich causes the same lack of space at the front bush

I will check the reason today...

proffighter 12-30-2013 11:31 AM

Still binding

Now I mounted a 1mm spacer to the stock one to see, how it works. Better, but still not enough. Because I don't want to loose the benefits of the anti-dive and won't change the suspension geometrie, I decided to go a different path now:

-Mount the beam with a bigger but same height spacer to get a more rigid connection

-Shave the bearing block to add spherical shims like at the front bush. This way I am sure to avoid any binding and alignment issue. in this point the ER sphericals are superior, aligning in the rear bearing as well...
