Thinking of Rotella T6, thoughts?
Been running Valvoline VR-1 forever, but have read too much oil pressure in most turbos is not recommended (straight from OEM turbo literature). At cold start, my gauge pegs and stays there for quite awhile; clearly over max recommendation for idle pressures.
Maybe a 40 weight would be better? My only concern is Texas gets really hot. Diesel oil, yay or nay? |

I'm not sure if there's a Rotella good for our cars, anymore. Last time I looked, I couldn't find anything I was happy with regarding viscosity and zinc levels. Chevron Delo is OK, though.

I've been using it because I thought it was up to standard zinc needs but now not sure. My engine leaks so much I can't feel good about mobile vtwin prices.

Sounds like the oil pressure relief valve is stuck on yours. Get under the motor and remove the threaded plug for it in the bottom of the case slowly and the spring and valve piston will slide out or it might take one of those skinny magnets you can buy to reach in there any pull it out so you can inspect it. It's possible it got stuck at TDC in it's cylinder so it isn't being pushed down compressing the spring by oil pressure to where oil can pass out holes in the side of it's cylinder. Sometimes people put washers or a 6mm nut inside the piston to shim up the spring tension to raise oil pressure a little. If you find any in there try removing them and see how it works. |

It always pegged gauge and I rebuilt the engine awhile back. Everything was smooth, don't think it's sticking.
Hmmm. My oil pressure gets down to 1.2-1.5 bar at idle when it's over say 100 degrees out. That I'm not liking, but I know it shouldn't really be an issue as there's no load. Just hate thinking a 50 weight being so low. |

I have no issues with the Dino, and never have used synthetic. My oil return goes to the crankcase vent/not the oil tank. I believe yours goes to your oil sump? Any way, I've never had a coking issue. Philip

philip j, you have changed your turbo two times that I know of. They are not on your car long enough to coke!

What's the point? Mobil 1 and Rotella T6 have about the same ZDDP, and the diesel oil does not have the high rev anti foming additives as an automotive oil.

So anti foaming is the only additive missing?

Sorry nothing to add about good or bad with Rotella. But I was reading that Porsche now offers their own brand of oil for older 911's Has anyone tried that yet?
