3.0 need replacement cams
My 79 3.0 is apart. Needed head studs, so doing the full rings, bearings, chains, re seal.
Both cams a re pitted, I suspect as a result of using incorrect/ low oil condition I need to buy cams so wondering what would be the suggestion to maybe "wake up" the 3.0 What else should I buy to compliment the cams This car will NEVER see a track.... pretty much a weekend warrior deal Tks Gents ed |

sounds like you are looking for 964 cams. If you are in shopping mode SSI and a dansk Sport muffler, or just stick a Dansk Sport 1 in 1 out muffler on. Personally I am not convinced there is a large difference going to SSIs having changed back&forth. Btw I am very happy with stock cams myself. Could have something to do with it

964 cams by Webcam.......
Quote:
Ed, The three (3) recent SC engines I rebuilt had new cams and the owner's were fully satisfied and happy with their decisions to change to 964 cams. ![]() Have your standard SC cams re-grind to 964 cam profile and you will be another happy camper. Tony |

So I can send my cams to web cam & they can re grind to 964 profile? If you don't mind me asking, what was the cost for this I guess that I should have the rocker pads re surfaced as well. Suggestion where I should have the rockers done? tks ed Last edited by outsider347; 01-28-2017 at 07:39 PM.. |

I had DR Camshaft regrind mine to his DC15 profile. It's one step down from the 964 profile. As the engine is still out of the car I cannot tell you how it is yet.

If I had a 78/79 engine my choice would be 9.3 or even 9.8 pistons and 964 cams. And exhaust

I'd agree that more compression would be nice-if your jugs are out of spec that might be your excuse to fix that. And 964 grind webcams do work well. And just as or maybe more important
is a good rebuild of the heads-you'd be surprised what that alone is worth.

What's the complete preferred build? 964 cams and 9.8 heads?

I have some manly 993SS cams for sale brand new from Webcam.
I'm going bigger and am pricing between used and new. Both sides will be happy. 964's will quiver in their presense..... ![]() ![]() |
